When the datasheet says something like you may take "up to" an additional X models, does this mean any number between? For example, Bullgryn can have up to 3 additional models in a unit beyond the base size, does this mean I can take 1 additional model or does it mean if I add any more models, it has to be 3 more?

You're allowed to take any number up to the maximum indicated.

If you were playing Power Level, then I can see why you would think that. If a unit starts with 5 and can take 5 more for X PL, then you generally want to take the maximum, because you'll be paying for it regardless.
