my guess is they did notice it and one of their marketing department geniuses (the same group that thought they didn't need to listen to player feedback) decided it was a "feature that ensures greater levels of money from our less expensive games!"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Just like people aren't born evil, players don't start wanting to look down on GW. They have done an awful lot on their own to earn the ire they receive. Some will troll all the time, that is inevitable. Some actually have really loved he game and GW crush that love with oodles of unforced errors that erode those positive feelings.

I feel like I helped to knock this off topic, sorry every body. Was good to hash out the old times with you all though. Cheers.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

"WHFB was too expensive they said. AoS and 40k are cheaper games they said"

You are now imagining an angry Bretonnian rowing up a river polluted with miniatures and army book pages from his faction.

They are in Total War.
If GW didn't kill fantasy and made their pricing fairer instead of being greedy gaks, then we might have had an actual Vampire Coast army on the table by now.

Some of the armies GW has put out are far more inspired than zombie pirates...

Don't get me wrong. I'd love something like the old system back minus the bs, but GW is on point for models.

I disagree. I find most AoS specific models to be overblown and garish.
Stormcast Eternals are ugly, SteamPunkBalloonDwarfs are ugly, Bonereapers are ugly and lame, and they only model from the Iodeth range I really liked is the turtle. The rest is meh, with the exception of the characters on their silly, unbalanced looking jet of water / mount. In their case its a "no"

I would rather have Vampire Coast as seen in Total War than Iodeth. There's nothing intrinstic to AoS that allows GW to make good models. They made good models for WHFB before AoS, and they would have continued to make good models.
That new black coach would have looked just great in a Vampire Counts army, just give it a bigger base for game play purposes (it needs one in general anyway. That rod is going to knock over a lot of models, no matter what system its in), and Vampire Coast would have looked great as well.

A bunch of vampire pirates fit in a battle*ground* in a Tolkenesque world much more than a bunch of sea elf monsters. I get that they probably have some BS about how they "swim through the air" or just flop around on the ground in AoS, but I'd rather a more "realistic" tone. I get the "But fireballs!" complaint, but that simply dismisses the internal consistency concept (which GW seems to have abandoned).

Some people like lower or medium magic settings.

Apparently when the Iodeth show up they take some of their magic from their realm with them that simulates everything being underwater, which is how they use their mounts.
Which is kinda dumb, as you'd think you can just dispel it or something and watch the idiots get crushed by their flailing mounts, but whatever.

I have no real issue with the AoS factions or models. Most of them could have fitted in neatly enough if they had decided just to move the Old World lore on a century or two after Chaos had "won" the end times. Don't think it really needed destruction of the planet if a move forward and new factions were what they were after.

A "good" counterpoint to Chaos Warriors/way of making fantasy marines? Sure, sounds like a good way to make money and bring folk into fantasy.

An evolved Slayer culture? Cool.

Underwater Elves? Eh, this ones a bit of a stretch for me even in the more fantastical Mortal Realms but sure.

I've done an about turn on this recently as I was super psyched for AoS for a while but I just don't find it an enjoyable wargame and ruleswise 40k has gone to a similar place.

To make this more on topic what I suggested is essentially what they have decided to do with 40k. I think they'll be smarter in that they won't smash up the old factions straight off the bat (and perhaps never) but this is the business model that seems to be working for them now and it does keep me semi interested even if the game has gone off the boil for me.

As an aside I was reading the 4th edition High Elf book for funsies (the first army book/codex I ever owned) the other day and those who complain about GW rules not being tight enough these days just wouldn't have stood a chance back then! And this was a book with very few special rules and went largely on unit profiles to do the lfting.

Still we made it work and it never seemed to be an issue.
