It's somewhat interesting that the Soviet starter force is ~2.5 the cost and size of the British force.

Are the Soviets just that much worse, or does the game assume that the Soviets are always on the offensive works that into the game rules?

No... that's just how they have done the sets based on how the units are bought in the lists. Soviet armour comes in companies of ten.

Nothing to do with how they perform.

Christ 10mm, I’d struggle to paint any infantry at that scale and it not end up looking like blobs of paint.

The game is playable in 15mm, but PSC have openly stated that 15mm sales have stalled heavily so they're trying to do 10mm and 20mm (1/72) options for WW2 and Cold War to keep product moving.

I'd like to pre-order, but I don't see it saving a whole heap, so I'm likely to pick it up upon release. We'll see.

Based on PSC's usual shipping to the States (especially on books), if you can get a couple other gamers to go in with you, the £14 flat shipping spreads out to increase the savings. Between the three of us locally who went in together, that dropped shipping to about $6 each, which is a significant savings.

Yeah my only potential Cold War buddy is in another state (nearby, but....still far enough). We're keeping an eye on it.

There is a group of us playing in Mount Pleasant. That said, I'm not very thrilled about the prices on the pre-order.

The price seems okay. At 100 pounds it's around $123 right now. For the book, both starter sets (as best I can tell), and a handful of added units...plus shipping? It's not a "holy crap, gotta buy it now!" but it doesn't look terrible. I'd really like to see a review of the 10mm stuff before going ham on it. I love me some PSC stuff, but at 10mm I'd like to see how detailed/varied/easy to build they are.

Agreed, I do hope they provide us more information soon.
With the flat shipping rate, I second the thought of a group purchase -- but I cannot get any buy-in with the pictures / info presented. Not yet.
