I recall reading that Space Marines are proud of their armor/chapter colors, however sometimes they do paint their armor for specific circumstances. Idk where I read this. I also think their was a model next to the excerpt, that was painted camo. The model was not a scout. Can anyone help me?

I recall an image of a Phobos Ultramarine in camo with a chapter colored shoulder pad, I want to say it was in the codex, or it was part of a WHC article.

That may have been it. Anyone have the pic?

Edit

I found it. July 2019 White Dwarf Pg 49. Ultramarine Reivers camouflaged up in woodland with their left shoulder pads blue. It’s a cool pic.

Theres also some really old lore about that, too. I beleive both paint and "auto-reactive" armor that can alter its color/pattern.

This has been lore since the original RT books.

So saying you read/saw it "somewhere" is a bit vague.

The original cutaway corvus armour in the RT rulebook all those decades ago specified that the armour contained a programmable mimetic layer.

You could set it for Parade dress, battle dress, camouflage (for a multitude of environment types, including cobalt chromate deserts).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

The only example I can think of off the top of my head are the Death Company of The Blood Angels (and successors) chapter, who paint their armour black over the top of the blood red it was originally.

For the Emperor and Sanguinius!

The Imperial Armour Badab War books feature several Chapters with variant camouflage and night world schemes.

I wanted to know because some dude gave me gak for my camo space Marines and said I couldn’t use the codex supplement because I had camo Marines. Now I have an official rebuttal.

Not if Imperial Fists though.

They're really into their heraldry. There was a doctrine set up for them in the doctrine book about it even.

That's because if you're the most noticable thing in the area you'll draw more attention than the traps you've built into your defences.

there is no rule about how your marines must be painted, if I want my blue marines to be salamanders then blue salamanders they are. and your opponent damn well knew this, he was just trying to be that fething guy and deny you some of your rules to give himself an edge.

The Imperial Fists still use - for example - night world schemes:
