What's your favourite 40k artwork?
Mine is actually the Assault Marine on the front cover of the 8th edition Blood Angels Codex.

Although I also love this vulnerable portrait of Sanguinius by Disarmonia, 2018:

On my I-pad, so difficult to link pictures (at least for me), but I’ve always been fond of the cover of Rogue Trader - last stand of the Crimson Fists. The remade picture with Primaris versions just doesn’t quite carry the same punch, though.

This... nothing that 40k has produced since then has come close to being this good.
IMO, nothing has surpassed Jes Goodwin concept designs and Mark Gibbons artistic talent.
Pretty much every image from 2nd ed that l loved was a Jes design illustrated by Gibbons.

It's not the traditional 40k look of two armies being 20ft apart from each other but instead a look of soldiers (in this case Tau) marching to the next battle. It something that gives a bit more of a grounded in reality feel than just absurdly crazy battle art.

On my phone, so again, annoying to link. My favourite is Blood of the Martyrs. A close second would be the original last stand of the Crimson Fists. I remember it from my 2nd edition rulebook and it was what made me want to paint my Primaris Marines as CF’s.

Gotta second Mark Gibbons, notably his earlier 2nd edition work. He changed styles slowly into the early 2000's, but his initial stuff was absolutely superb.
His art plus the much better writing is essentially what makes the 2nd edition codices the treasure troves that they are. Fluff/art/writing that hasn't really been surpassed since (and in an era of Jes Goodwin and Perry sculpts).

I really wish there was way more art like this, love it. Would be awesome to see similar peace’s for every army, would even be amazing to see more of the daemons interacting with mortals in a setting outside of the battlefield. Scheming and enjoying what they do when not at war.
