So with all this talk of da red gobbo and with Xmas round the corner (and therefore the movie Gremlins) I've been thinking how much I'd like to see a proper Grot Revolushun faction release.

The other factor feeding into this is the release of the Gloomspite Gits that has some of the best models I've seen for some time. I'd love a similar release for the grots of 40k. Of course it'd also give the greenskins ally options (among others, perhaps?) and flesh them out a lot more as a full superfaction.

Anyway is there anyone else who's interested in a similar release and if so is there anything in particular you'd want to see?

Only if you get grot tanks as plastic kit

But yea a grot revolution faction, even just a WD one or supplement one would be pretty amazing.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

I would absolutely LOVE to see GW expand more on the grot side of things for Orks, even give them effectively their version of "Grot kultur" that's missing in the Ork codex. It could help bring Killa Kanz back to relevancy and given how well they did with gobbos via Gloomspite Gitz in AoS, there's clearly precedent that grots could be a viable sub faction of Orks.

The problem with grots would be the fact that the game already struggles with horde factions, ultra-horde one might be as bad for the game as Knights. Though, I suppose it's something that can be solved with some creativity - bases of grots like nurglings, meganobz-like suits operated by grots, grot-zeppelins, you can do a lot here. And yeah, anything that isn't just 'slightly different humans faction #28503' would be welcome, IMO.

I liked Grot mafia/market stories from way back when, you can really do much more with them than with Orks or Tau...

Grot bases, regular grots, grot rifleman.
Not morale immune.
A lot of artillery, squadrons vehicle rules that make sense (No morale issues for kanz would help massively)

There are quite a lot of ways to address that issue and solve it.

Yea good points all.

I could see Grot Snipers for sure. Some claptrap Mechanised units ala Killa Kans. Perhaps some rikkety artillery pieces.

The main draw for me is the humour and modelling potential though. Orks are a particular brand of dark humour but I yearn for the selfish, cheeky, bitter, chaotic and most importantly petty humour of Grots. Like futuristic Gremlins, basically. GW could pull some blinders if they did more Grot models I reckon.

I think a full-on army line is unlikely, but giving Da Red Gobbo an aura ability (or maybe even army-wide ability) that boosts Grot units might make it a fun list archetype (ie stock up on Kans, Mek Gunz, and Grot Tanks). Maybe a grot snipers unit or something similar in the near-future too.

I'd be more impressed if half the people saying yes to this weren't also trying to shrink other armies for having too much 'bloat'.

Completely irrelevant and nobody cares whether this impresses you or not unless you’re Mr GW 40k design team lead (in which case I have some choice words for you).

Man, I'd play/collect/paint the feth out of that army!

And it would be a great opportunity to bring back that ramshackle sand-skimmer that they used to have!

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like soup. Now you put soup in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put soup into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now soup can flow or it can crash. Be soup, my friend.

Grot Revolution playable atm, if only at 500pts. 120 Grots, two Snakebite Warboss Grots (Red Gobbo and lieutenenant) and there you go.

You could add Slugga Boyz ( Squigs ), Kannon (snipers) and Buggies (Grot Cutters). Given the low-tech/partisan nature of the Revolution, Kans could be too high tech.

Rules changes might include letting them use pieces of cover as a stationary Transport, making them un-targetable until the cover is ‘destroyed’.

If we accept a revision of the ‘no Strategem’ rule, a one point ‘Grot Booby Trap’ grenade attack on a random enemy unit should work.

Obviously you would not be winning competitions with this, but a cooperative opponent would oblige?

With the red gobbo being a Christmas model, I doubt GW is seriously considering a grot army.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I almost definitely wouldn't buy it unless its just some units to support my ork army. I already struggle to to paint the few gretchin hanging off the buggies (I'm a RL ork), so feth me if I have to paint more than 10 gretchin a month.

Hopefully the red gobbo will get some WH40k datasheet that doesn't completely suck. I will definitely play him as often as possible.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I could see a lot of mileage in Some IG tanks going to a Grot faction as well. Full rules for all the weirdness a Grot could come up with to keep one running would be loads of fun. And still be covered with rules, or a Resin Conversion kit.

I started my collection loving the orks, and I still very much do, but I will always take the option of adding a gretchin to a model when given the chance. Its one of the reason I love stormboyz so much! So ya, if you told me that there would be new gretchin specific models dropping, then I am absolutely the target audience for that!

The reason i never played orks even with greenskins being my fantasy army is because how irrelevant grots are in 40k compared with goblins in fantasy, that were in equal footing with orcs. Their own special characters, hq, lore of magic, etc...

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I love the idea and would buy into it for sure!

Custom40k Homebrew - Alternate activation, huge customisation, support for all models from 3rd to 10th edition

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)
