Is there a fluff reason why Astartes Librarians always wear blue/indigo power armour?

Is there a necessity for them to do so, or can a Librarian's armour be painted in the scheme of his chapter?

Index Astartes: Psykana Librarius featured Librarians in Chapter colours - Iron Hands with blue left shoulder, Salamander with blue right arm/shoulder and helmet, White Scar with blue right arm/shoulder.

Mephiston wears red armour with no blue.

Because that's what they've always done - Librarians wear blue, techmarines red, Apothecaries white & Chaplains black.

As Lord Damocles said - it doesn't have to be their entire armour. Even in Rogue Trader there were variations.

So a bit of blue to differentiate them from non-witch-kin?

Good point about Mephiston et al. Although standard Blood Angels psykers who aren't the Lord of Death do wear blue armour.

Might go for a Chapter scheme but with a couple of blue accents (shoulder pad, kneed pad etc).

It would be intreasting to learn the reason behind it.

White is a colour tradtionally associated with healing so apocatharies make sense, the red of tech marines is for Mars, clearly. but the blue of the Librarius seems to not have an obvious meaning, I kinda hope the HH series will eventually give us a suggestion as to why. Mostly because the story could be kinda neat. see the reason why sergant's helmets are red.

I only paint their robes blue, honestly. To me, that suits the purpose.

Even then, my Phobos Librarian isn't blue in the least.

Lol. All jokes aside, that should be a reason for Librarians NOT to be blue!

Old 3rd ed era paint schemes.

I’m not sure what the in-universe explanation is for blue. From a IRL POV, the colors for specialists are to help pick them out on the table top, and blue might have got the nod for librarians becasue the other good colors were already taken.

That's a good observation. Makes sense. Still, would be interesting to know if there is an in-universe reason or if it was purely logistical irl and has just stuck.

When the bulk of space marine models were made from rogue trader plastics, alternate colourschemes and helmet details was a practical method to mark out special models from otherwise near identical marines.
