Unfortunately, SJG said that, for now, only the core set will be available retail. You'll still pay shipping through SJG's Warehouse 23 direct mail for anything else. Retail MSRP for the core is $100, so the OLGS should sell it for maybe $80 with free shipping. While I'm at the $140, I'll also wait for retail to see if I can find a sale on the core if I hear that a six to eight player game isn't too long.

Anyway, the car build Youtube is up!

The car build video is nice - shows how the cards work together better than we've seen till now.

It's kind of 'funny' a game closing in on the $500K mark isn't being talked about much anywhere, let alone here. Places like BGG are more interested in the latest pasted on theme Euro game, as opposed to something that might actually be, fun....

Watched the car build vid which sadly was a big negative. (and now the combat vid which was worse)

I was kinda expecting for a "car template" to have spaces for the equipment/weapons etc- it looks messy and that its really easy to knock stuff about and loose track of what was where etc. Suprised not a better way of marking what is which side, turret etc.

Basically a modern version of this (with a crew section maybe)

Spoiler:

Yeah, that video sadly reinforced my fear that this version of Car Wars was not for me. I suppose I am too old-school for such a departure from the old formula. Hopefully it will do well and usher in a new generation of players, but it is not for me.

Urusei Yatsura, Cerebus the Aardvark, Machiavelli, Plato and Happy Days. So, how was your childhood?

On the other hand, I'm a grognard player who just doesn't want to spend hours over spreadsheets to optimize a car.

(Of course now you can spend hours looking at cards to do the same thing )

The new edition works for me. I'm no longer the guy who enjoys playing Campaign for North Africa...

Now watched the combat vid - well most of it.

Its a strange mixture of new ideas - the dreaded special dice for instance and the cards - which seem a really cool and evocative idea

But it also seems really hard to actually do anything ( a bit like the original) - all the cars were out of control really really quickly mainly by just driving round a race track bend...but then its fine for the driver to blaze away with a AK whilst spinning around but no penalties - yeah thats very cinematic but the two things seem very jarring?

I still think a decent card template for all your stuff would help - seems like alot of stuff is just round the main car template? Maybe there will be third part ones or am I just being old an finicky?

Good news: Core set has two additional miniatures and will still be $75 through the KS!
Bad news: "An important note. Now that two more cars have been added to the core game (a total of ten car minis in the box), the post-KS price has been adjusted (up). Kickstarter backers are paying $75; the post-KS price is $115 for the core game."

New add-on unlocked. Miniature sets 2 and 4 are not included in any pledge levels.

Yeah, I think when I pick this up I'm going to devise a better "car-like" template to put cards on. The generic template just doesn't do it for me.

Though the big draw for me to this game is that it appears to go faster than the old 10-phase version and, of course, minis instead of counters.

Crap. This has gotten too good to ignore. I'm now a backer.

I'm really thinking of getting the road tiles to play Gaslands on.

The play mats would be great for that too!
