Hey folks, fans of the rather excellent Joe McCullough (Frostgrave, Ghost Archipelago) might like to know we at Modiphius are producing a deluxe edition of his solo/co-op game Ranger’s of Shadowdeep.

This new edition is hard bound, revised and updated and contains new art and expansion content.

It’s on pre-order here, shipping early 2020, but you get the PDF of the book as soon as you place your order so you can get playing immediately.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

A question for you JonWebb, and one for anyone else who's bought Mophidius stuff.

In the first case - is the image on the page representative of the final cover, ie the all the debossing will be in black? I can live with that - though honestly I think a silver foil for the lettering and filigree, with the black reserved for the silhouette image, would be more "readable" without losing the theme - just wanted to make sure. Or are those "highlights" actually present as part of the final design?

In the second - what are people's experiences with Mophidius' printed material? Paper quality, how good are the bindings, are they generally well proofed and edited etc. I've not bought from them before and if I'm going to bother buying the "shelf book" version I don't want to go in blind.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I've backed 3 of their RPG campaigns and the books are all good quality paper and bindings. Ran Conan for a year and everything held up just fine. I did have a slip cover completely destroyed in shipping but they got a new one to me pretty quickly.

As for writing. Well with the KSer stuff they send out drafts to backers for mistakes/errors so they end up being pretty good. But even 50 people reading the same draft won't find all the errors.

The only really bad book in draft I remember was the Infinity RPG and some things ended up unfixed in the core book but from what was talked about on the old G+ group is that book got delayed due to reviews from licenser and there was a group change during the several months delay and some things got forgotten during that time and switch. But that's a pretty extreme case back when their RPG team was smaller and out of maybe 20 or so books I've gotten so far the only one with any big issues in in (and it's more poorly written rule explanations here or there that never got cleaned up).

Oh I know a few wee mistakes will always slip through, I'm just checking they're not as bad as GW

To be honest, since the written material already exists (albeit across multiple products) I don't think we are likely to see any new typos etc being introduced and I can also confirm that the Modiphius RPG books are some of the nicest RPG books I own in terms of quality (AC, MC and Infinity).

Even though I have the softback already, I will be picking this one up for sure to support Joe and Modiphius!

Sorry for the slow reply, busy morning.

The book is being printed in Europe by the same team that made our special edition Fallout RPG books (and most of our books TBH).

The cover is faux leather and I'm just finding out if the artwork/titles are inked in black or will be green as per the cover material.

I'll update once I get final clarification from our production team (this one was a special project mostly looked after by the boss and Joe, so I'm not as hands on with details as with something like Fallout).

Update - the cover art/text is created by a heated stamp. So, its not inked black but will still appear darker as the stamping process does change the recess colour slightly.

Was a bit worried at "deluxe edition" and "faux leather" that this was going to cost a fortune, but at £35 it's not really any more than the POD hardback from DrivethruRPG which I've been eyeing up, and with additional content too. I've just placed an order, and the best bit is that as I was browsing the site initially a pop up offered me 5% off, which I used.

Well I ordered it anyway so there's no reason to care what I have to say now But unless that's a creative/style choice, I really hope if it's possible given the timescale you'd consider using a foil(it's used as part of that same heat stamping process) either in silver or pale gold. I own a few naked-stamped books and even with the darkening from the heat they're not as "readable" to the eye as a nice foil.

Would it be possible to get a detailed comparison between what will be offered with this release vs the current releases on DTRPG?

Does Modiphius fulfill PDF directly or use DTRPG.?

Thanks in advance

Can't speak to the comparison, but when I bought it they just link you to right the PDF download at the end of the transaction process.

Thanks!

Am I correct in understanding the PDF is available now?

You get the link to the PDF as soon as you place your order, yes.

We provide PDFs through a 3rd party service, but its not via DriveThru or anything like that (though many of our books are available via DriveThru if you like everything centralised).

I'll see if I can get some specifics on the old vs new, but the product description does somewhat detail the edition.

To my shame I've not played Rangers yet. Maybe I'll get Joe to do me a session at some point given he lives down the road from me these days.

He and Chris did this as a special/somewhat secret project so my guys were not in the loop (too busy with Fallout and Elder Scrolls )

Just received my copy. Reservations about the stamping aside it's a very nice book, seems well made, nice flexible spine, initial glance through doesn't reveal any obvious errors.

If you're a fan of having stuff in physical format, I think it's worth the money given it also includes the PDF for when that's more convenient.
