All the Primarchs were influenced by Chaos to some degree when they were scattered. Their haphazard upbringings on random worlds was also definitely not what the Emperor had in mind. How they would have turned out if the Emperor had raised them as originally planned is interesting to speculate.

I think had the Emperor actually raised them from birth, they would have had a similar mindset as the Custodians, just less as bodyguards and more as generals. They would all have a clearly defined purpose and I feel there would be less rivalry. There would still be some sort of cliques when it came to certain Primarchs getting along better with others but I feel like they would have a better vision of the Emperor's overall plan. The question is whether or not the Emperor would have told them about the Webway project or Chaos if he had started with them from the beginning of the GC, or if he would have still kept them in the dark.

Can you imagine raising 20 sorry 18 kids? Especially kids with super powers. Would be horrendous. Imagine changing a primarch nappy.. Or trying to bath them all.

That's why Macaldor is there as the 40k version of Super Nanny/Merry Poppins. He's there to spank them and the Emperor is there to come back from the Webway to drink and neglect them.
