Hi Dakka,

I just finished this 1,000pts army off today for my store.
For these I wanted a fairly simple scheme - not wanting to spend hours on each mini.
So I went for some dirtied up Black Templars, thinking I could add a new Primaris Grimaldus or Helbrecht when GW surely did one as icing on the cake

Notes on Paints/Technique/General Thoughts etc
Spoiler:

- The army was entirely brush painted as there was little use for an airbrush.
- They were all primed Chaos Black.
- I used Vallejo Black (a very matt finish) for the armour plates and Vallejo Glossy Black for the piping/muscle fibres. It's a good way to add different tones of black to all black Marines.
- To represent that they're a vanguard force with a crusading fetish I added targeted wash layers of Vallejo Hull Red to the recesses.
- The shoulder pads were painted with Vallejo Deck Tan. I then used watered down Scale 75 Cokum Copper and push it towards the recesses over several layers, wiping away in the center with a damp brush to leave some of the deck tan in the middle of the pad.
- I then did some fairly fast and loose edge highlighting with Vallejo Sky Grey
- Metal areas such as grenades, weapons, antenna etc were painted with Vallejo Metal Colour Steel and washed with Nuln Oil, before washing with Hull Red. Some parts were then drybrushed with Necron Compound.
- Camo Cloaks were done very simply with a base of Vallejo Luftwaffe Uniform, glazed with Dark Grey and then layered back up with the Uniform base. I then glazed Hull Red towards the bottom of the cloaks.
- Lenses and targeters etc were painted a flat red and then layered with fluorescent red/orange - same with the green screens.
- The minis were then brush varnished with a Matt varnish (again Vallejo).

I love the Black Templars but GW proper shafted them with no releases or even so much as a Primaris upgrade kit.
The decals took forever to apply as they were so old, I can't help but feel I should practice a stylised freehand, it could save time and add a bit more to minis in the future.

Thanks for looking

They look great, but a black Templar librarian? Think the guns would be pointed at him

I was just going to say, "One of these things is not like the others. One of these things just doesn't belong."

If not for the fluff incongruities, awesome work!

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

Thanks

I'm going to have to sub him out and replace him me thinks
You wouldn't think I've been into the hobby for 27 years with a mistake like that!

Just goes to show when paint mode is engaged, lore mode can get ravaged.
Luckily I can just change him to Raven Guard etc

And/or make his arm silver so he's seconded from the Deathwatch?

I'd just use the librarian as a lieutenant, you've done too nice a job on him to shelf it.
