This may be a bunch of super basic and obvious questions, but I just recently learned that infantry can walk through walls, and my brain is having a difficult time adjusting to this. So, imagine a situation with one of those official building sections. The usually L shaped wall with the lower half of a bunch of cathedral windows. On one side is a marine, on the other is a squad of wyches. Both the marine and the wyches are 1.1” away from the wall. Given that infantry can move through walls, can the wyches charge through them too? Is it a regular charge, or does the wall count as a barricade, thus allowing the distance to be 2” instead of 1”? If it’s not a barricade, could the marine then protect himself from charges by moving closer to the wall? In this particular instance there are windows between them so they can see each other, but if there were a door there or a solid wall, would this mean that the marine couldn’t fire overwatch? If all GW terrain can be seen through and moved through, is there a point in even having terrain?

Sorry, like I said my brain is not adjusting well.

INFANTRY can move through walls of Ruins, not terrain in general. It must be defined as a Ruin.

Yes, they can charge through Ruin walls as if they were not there.

Yes, if there is not space to place the charging model within 1" of the charge target then the charge fails.

Yes, if there is no line of sight then you may not fire overwatch.

Ok cool, so the next question is what defines ruins? Is it specifically an enclosed space?

Ruins are whatever you and your opponent decide are ruins at the start of the game.

This.

It's up to you and your opponent to mutually agree on what terrain features on the table count as what before the game begins.

Ruins are often not enclosed. The rules this edition assume that ruins are on a base - ruins are basically an area. Cover is granted to units that are within that area (and 50% obscured if not INFANTRY).

But this wasnt previously the case, so a lot of people and game shops have ruin like terrain that is not on a base, so you'll need to decide with your opponent exactly how to deal with that too.

GW expects a Ruins to be a "ruins". So an no longer intact building.

Some people will rule a large intact building that you can actually place models inside of as ruins. If such buildings lack any holes for doors or windows, you get the "magic box".

A "magic box" is a space where Infantry models can enter but not other models can not (since only Infantry can pass tand LOS cannot be drawn to them because they are surround by LOS blocking walls and roof.
