So, with the pixelated Primaris picture of new tanks, speeders, bikes going around, I've had doubts on continuing on with my Chaos Space Marine army. I literally just bought the stuff two weeks ago, thinking that Primaris time was over for the time being, what with all supplements and codex being released. I've got several hundred dollars to spare since Christmas and my birthday coming up and was trying to figure what to use it on: more Primaris or more CSM. I've got everything you could imagine on the sidelines for Primaris, but an incomplete CSM army (virtually no daemon engines, cultists, raptors/warp talons, predators, land raiders, vindicators, bikers, etc.). So should I just wait for the Primaris release, see what everything is like, then buy Primaris models, or continue on with my CSM?

Thank you!

Never, ever, make a purchasing decision based on speculation. Its always better to wait, know what is released, than pivot based on rumor or innuendo.

If you think about switching faction on release of every sketchy picture / rumour the only friends you will have are GWs shareholders.

One at a time and within means - you can't own everything as much as you may want to.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

No other faction/race/army will ever get the attention that Primaris marines will get for the next 5-10 years, minimum.

Loyalist marine factions before them, the Primaris are "the" iconic faction and sell more than any other faction (in many cases, they sell more than numerous other factions when combined). GW is replacing classic marines (this is not a debate, ignore the people who continue to whine that they're not...) and thus Primaris releases will not stop. Of all the factions in the game, Primaris marine players are in the best spot. They are more or less guaranteed kits every couple of months.

Chaos may get some love in the future, most likely armies launched for Slaanesh and Khorne, but we've zero time frame on that. It's only logical after Death Guard and Thousand Sons became their own armies/factions. Normal CSM? They may have got their primary releases for a couple years if you're unlucky. The army still exists and is still sub-par when compared to the new Primaris codex.

If having new shiny models is what appeals to you? Primaris would be the way to go. It's not the only reason to collect an army, but that's up to you.

PS: I agree with the above posters though, swapping/jumping armies consistently is a recipe for one thing; WASTING gak tons of money and time.

I'm going to give the sage advice I never take myself; finish what you have before looking at the next thing.

You don't need to go out and blow all your cash on one or the other, just go one box at a time. Get it assembled, painted and onto a table, then buy the next one.

If you're enjoying Chaos now, stick with them. If you have doubts and aren't enjoying them, bench them.

There really is no right answer, just what works for you.
I'd just advise against buying up a load of plastic to add to the mountain if you're on the fence.

I've collected 40k for 20 years, and I'm pretty sure I have more minis on sprue than I have painted.

Finish painting what you have before working about any more.

You are all right. Before I buy anymore models, I need to sit down, assemble and paint the ones I have. I can't have it all, so I am just going to enjoy with what I have. Appreciate your comments and advice!

Wait, pixilated Primaris pics? New bikes and speeders?

[some internet searching/]

Ok, that's a Baal Predator in the forground and probably the existing Marine bikes in the background. I'd bet money that the thing in the middle is an Impulsor varient, which anyone with their brain still mostly inside of their skull knows is coming eventually.

Warhammer community tends to be very swift to respond to rumors etc. the complete lack of any word on this from WHC is... slightly suspicious, they might be holding off for the weekend as there's some sort of big event, but given how we've not heard anything this looks more and more like it might be a hoax.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Make a list of what you want your "complete" CSM to include.
Note that this doesn't require every option in the codex, just the ones you want.

Buy, build, & paint(?) each of those options in turn.
Whenever the new Primaris stuff is revealed decide what you want. Integrate it into the shopping/building/painting(?) list.
Continue on, 1 option at a time, until you reach the end.

The painting part of this can be in conjunction with buying/building new stuff.

I had a wonderful Night Lords project going with every model converted. I scrapped it when I realised how puny and stumpy they looked next to primaris Marines.

I will not touch Chaos Marines because of this. Kinda sad actually that primaris Marines makes regular Marines be it Chaos or not feel like a inferior kind of superhuman.

Storywise, isn't that the point? That it's an arms race & the Imperium has just upped the anti....

Those guys look awesome. Reminds me of my night lords. Just think of them like Kurt Russell's character from Soldier. The old guard taking on the new breed of warrior with their experience and guile.

As do the plastic heresy pattern kits and the resin ones. Of course they're smaller. They're supposed to be. Shouldn't scale be accurately represented? I personally like the idea of my ancient veterans of the long war taking on a bunch of roided up thin bloods.

Csm are Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Kurt Russell, and Mad Max era Mel Gibson. Primaris are vin diesel, the rock, and any other modern pretty boy sad sack of an action hero.

No. Fething. Contest.

Don't dis Vin Diesel, he's one of us. And I'm actually looking forward to Dwayne The Rock The Toothfairy Johnson running for president, that's going to be a hoot.

(Yes, Primaris making the Chaos Marines look puny is sad. To be fair the basic Marine chassis has been undersized for a while, their models should be noticably taller than quite a few things in the setting.)
