They said they used a glossy coat at first, which you can see on the kickstarter models. But most people disliked it when they saw it in person, so they switched to the matt coat you see now.

Some people that received their models do say it looks better in person than it does on photo. But at least it looks like they're trying to improve quality, so hopefully the results only get better over time as experience and the technology improves.

I'd be curious to see if a glossy overcoat helps like it does with a foggy matte overcoat application. In the kickstarter comments, someone posted that they rinsed their mini and it improved temporarily until it dried overnight.

Hero Forge have added a load more pieces since the last post here.

Is anyone (still) using this?
I did make up a few characters and they are so good in render that I would love some pieces to come out like that.
But obviously all the pictures beg to differ..
Is it the same issue for just the grey plastics? Or was it the colour printing that lost the quality etc?
I’d paint stuff myself so that’s not an issue, but would want nice detail on there..

Beasts of War talked quite a lot about it last week

https://www.beastsofwar.com/featured/win-your-hero-forge-2-0-miniature-design-mantic-goblins-their-best-range-yet-weekender/

and they're running a comp to get mini printed up (probably a group pick the best show happening this week to cut down the shortlist)
so hopefully they'll end up showing it & some of their others as Warren is printing some of his stuff

I reckon the best thing to do with Heroforge minis (especially if you're not in the US) is to buy the STL files and get them printed by a third party, ideally in resin rather than plastic. If you check Etsy there's plenty of sellers that'll print your files (ParagonStar was my go to until I got my own printer) and it'll be way faster and cheaper than going direct from Heroforge, and probably better quality. I've no experience with the coloured plastic, but in the past I've found the prints HF themselves offer are fine, but if you go resin you'll get minis that look as good as the render in terms of detail.

Ah that’s a good shout.
I’ve never looked into STL’s as I don’t have a printer myself.
I just want that sharp quality that looks like you don’t actually get (from Hero Forge).
Well i shall have a look on there and see if there’s anyone who can get that good quality. Or if you fancy printing a couple for me let me know

If you get a non-colored print from them they look as good as what you can get from a standard SLA printer. I've done all three routes (STL, regular, tougher or whatever it's called) and they all look pretty much the same.

It's only the color that uses a different print material that has really low detail.

Ok fair enough, I did wonder.
Though looking at Etsy it seems way cheaper to get someone there to print it, particularly as they have deals on printing multiples.

Colour is live?
It was on there at least a month ago wasn’t it? I could colour my stuff when I was playing about with it.

What I need as an option is a proper fantasy full plate armour..

Huh yeah, that's what their email said and apparently I posted on it...

But there's been a reorg of the site and some new options.

Maybe with every new item drop they are reiterating that colour is there.
As it’s the latest thing for them etc..
