I cant recall Necrons getting anything in Vigilus 1 or 2. So far PA has presented them with nada and the upcoming books seems not to feature them either.

Whilst I doubt GW have given up on them entirely, whats going on with them?
I still think they are an interesting faction with potential and some decent (if unfleshed out) game mechanics.

Is it a case of too many other armies competing for space or will Crons kinda slowly fade away. A bit like GKs come to think of it.

There's a lot of factions in the game, I shouldn't read anything into them not getting any story mentions in the Vigilus books.
Despite their best efforts, even GW can't shoehorn ever faction into every conflict!

Well but it is kind of a wierd when a factions doesn't pop up in any lore for 2 years.

GW promised that every faction will get new rules with the new PA books. There are already rumors about the return of the silent king, szarekh. He is supposed to look like illuminor szeras, but about twice his size, a necron primarch. He will probably be revealed when the necrons PA book is out, so far every PA book was accompanied by the release of one character.

There are a number of other Armies that have yet to be updated in PA.

Necrons are Xenos, unless you are a space elf Xenos, GW takes their time with updating or giving anything to them. And the few times we get some updates first, everyone else suddenly gets similar updates, but much better (7th edition Detachments giving free vehicles)...

Anyway, we know what the next two months of PA releases are for the most part, so we have at least three months still to wait.

Until then, we have the Lore being printed in White Dwarf (Szarekh is already in the galaxy based on various Blood Angle's stories, but you know, Black Library Books are not always Canon as they keep changing their minds on what is Lore or not). Then the information leak about Iilluminor Szeras getting a new model on a 60mm base.

Drako brings up an interesting point: GW updates things sequentially and while their QA is shoddy at the best of times they do tend to get better over a release cycle. Books released at the start of a wave tend to be both weaker and internally less consistent in the long run.

(Although if Marine Codex 2.0 really is the start of a new wave it says bad things about how lethal the game will be two years from now.)

I really wish people would stop with these "everyone gets a primarch equivelent" rumours. Its pretty clear at this point it's not the case.

In general when people say "there are rumors that..." it would be nice for them to point to where they personally read those rumors.

Or unless you're Orks, which got their dex, new models and a complete minigame just over a year ago, or GSC which got a codex, a ton of new models and were the posterboys for the launch of Kill Team. Or Tau, which is getting a new character...

Now look, I'm not saying Xenos don't need more love, or that they get as much as marines. Nids didn't get new units, and we don't know for sure about 'Crons; DE didn't get any of their taken characters back... I get it.

But I think this edition has been more Xeno friendly than some have been, and I think if we can be patient, it will come. I thing GW is taking the long view, and I do think they have a plan to do right by all of their factions.

It’s mostly because of the story that GW posted on their community page about the silent king, they rarely feature a story about the return of a major lore character without having more content like a model coming at some point.

well it is a thing though. GW seems to want that every army has a big 100$+ kit, AoS already has people buy free terrain that buffs your army and spells you have to get for your army. And with most armies being of the space marine kind a something primarch for everyone makes sense. Maybe necron will get some mega construct. And orc some mega beast to raid on.

No it isn't. 8th is an aberration, with a vastly over-accelerated codex cycle.

Normal is 5-10 years for most factions, 3-4 for the headliners.

Is it? We have a two Daemon primarchs, Guilliman and...what? Abaddon? It's hardly set a standard. Also I'm not talking about super-heavies I'm talking about big name character models.

Necrons got a cryptarch a year or so back with Forgebane, as well as some stories, so GW hasn't completely forgotten them, they just have their model-making efforts directed elsewhere.

I doubt we're going to see a silent king model, but the 'crons do have the majority of their special characters in resin, ripe for converting to plastic. Though I'd much rather they redo the destroyer kit, including turning the heavy destroyer arm to a plastic bit.

It never ends well

Gotta take it easy on the newbies. They don't know the good old days of Dark Eldar and other xenos being ignore for one or even two complete editions.

Cryptek with Forgebane, the Tau kill team was supposed to 'match up' with the Necron one(the Tau were infiltrating an Imperial world and Necrons were waking up), and as mentioned there's the WD article coming up.

Necrons are still resting. but with the modern release cycle, i imagine they will be coming back out of the tombs very soon.

That said... I'm not so sure it will be a grand idea when they release. im worried about them being to forward with the Silent King. I hope he stays more in the background for now.

Army: none currently.

No, but since Guilliman turned up there's been rumours every time a new release for anything that that faction will get a primarch equivalent. It's been nearly two and a half years since Mortarion was released and we've not seen any primarch level models since, so why would they make the Silent King before, say Fulgrim or Angron?

Why not ? Is there some kind of order they have to follow ? Chaos got abaddon, why should they get another character like fulgrim or angron, before other factions get even one character ?

Agreed. I think they're a GREAT faction and am saddened by fact they've been left in limbo and so many players seem to have given up on them.

Most annoying thing is it wouldn't take much to polish them up. Their character units are powerful, reanimation protocols are great trait and basic weapon effectiveness and unit toughness is good.

Should be much more prominent than they are.

From a Blood Angels perspective, they're important in the fluff too. They fought with BAs against Tyranids on Gehenna and attacked Chaos forces (thus assisting the Imperium) on Cadia during Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade.

Necrons will be in PA at some point. I just hope it's not in my Tau book. Sick of Necrons being joined at the hip with us.

The fact they haven't been in any main lore for 2~ years might be because GW like everyone else realized they made a mistake with their "Necron humanization project" and are struggling to retcon it smoothly, or (if they are stubborn) failing to come up with a good way of driving them even further into the mud.

Uh, funny story about that, there was a huge dramatic character arc for Vect in and around the release of the new DE codex, and a giant splash image of him with "He's coming" or somesuch, and....He's still not in the codex, lol. Our faction's Main Character who's had basically all the lore about him hasn't had rules in 3 game editions....

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
