I'm not great at magnetising but I'd say even experienced guys would have a hard time magnetising these minis - it's the arms/hand joins and the way the backpacks glue together.
They're so small they'd be very tricky to magnetise.
They're great minis but multi-pose they are not, head swaps and occasional hand swaps are doable for most I reckon, but beyond that it's getting into more green stuff territory.
I could be proven wrong though.
The most I've done was put a combi-melta on a Sister Superior using the Sanctum Imp. mini as a base.

Even if the new sets are a little monopose I've already seen some great conversions including magnets for the retributors. So I am sure magnetising works, done that with Geminae arms in the past, should work just as well with the new ones, but the standard sisters now don't cost a lot and I don't know if it is worth the effort for most ideas.

Good work on the base!

Man, nice pace everyone! I love the various non-Majoris color schemes... just goes to show what can be done. I realized that most of the way through my Penitent Engine build-n-paint blitz I'd left a piece on the sprue... doh! That's what you get for hobbying under the influence, I guess, but it's easily fixed. I've been distracted from Sisters by three Assassins for this month's painting contest, but I'm thinking the Simulacrum and a few of the plastic bolter Sisters from the Army Box are my next project... I have to rip a few stormbolters from converted metal Sisters to be wysiwyg, so maybe I'll try a few gun swaps on those monopose models... anyone tried this yet?

Since it's page 2, I'm going to take the question mark out of the thread title... great work, all!

Trying to come up with a good paint scheme for my penitent engine(s). As they are brutal execution devices of the Ministorum rather than glorious Sororitas units, I wanted them to have a more grimy and subdued appearance compared to core Sisters units. Haven't settled on anything yet besides a slightly uninspired gunmetal-and-black scheme.

I started with Leadbelcher + Nuln, did some dull gold trim (the spikey bits), and picked out the wood grain stuff. I'll do hoses and tech bits, maybe a few more gold decorative bits, and detail the weapons (not sure how yet... soot? heat damage? blood?). That'll be about it... I own a single "classic" PEngine and I did try to add some color to tie it in with my army, but I wasn't thrilled. I think pure grimdark will be my direction there.

I made a melta! This was actually super easy from the starter box. All I did was cut off the canister on the bottom, slice it in half, put that half on the side after filing it down smooth. I then trimmed out the nozzle and (not pictured because I can't find my most current picture >< I trimmed and smoothed off the top handle. It looks like an extra baroque relic Melta gun! All I need to figure out is how to put some muzzle slots in the side but im not sure if I even want to bother.

Here's a few of mine... much less baroque, and probably harder to match to the new stuff for that reason. But for those looking to source trim bits, I can recommend the etched brass fleur de lis kit from Hasslefree Minis (top doors and blades) and Zefig's shop on Shapeways (top plates and turrets).
Spoiler:

What I'm in need of is a big pile of Sisters scale power swords and chainswords, not too clunky, to drill and pin to basically every Superior in my army and to covert the army box Seraphim to Zephyrim... who's got a favorite third-party weaponsmith?

I've been experimenting with changing Seraphim to Zephyrim, and found that the two handed swords that are in the Grey Knight Strike squad work with a little modification. Just trim down the 'power box' and power cord and cut the blade off above the hilt and you've got a blade that is the right scale and has a nice bit to glue to the hand and a base to green stuff the fingers back around. Chainswords, that's something else, no idea.

As for Kill teams, the metal Heavy weapon sisters work well with chaos marines arms cut to the right shape and glued to the proper weapons. The indents for the joints on the sisters make for a good start for mounting the magnets, and with a little dremel work the head can be changed with one of the newer ones, for a bit of variation in the squad.

I converted the box set Seraphim to Zephyrim swords:

I took Imperial Guard chainsword hands and tacked on Space Marine power sword crossguards/blades. Couldn't say what specific sprues they came from; I pulled them from the bits pile. But I'm sure that standard sergeant/command sprue weapons do the trick. Similar size weapons should be available from the Neophyte Hybrid boxes.

Cadian sized chainswords should work with a simple wrist swap if chainswords are what is needed.

Mud Duck & Hankovitch, this is exactly where I'm headed (slowly). I already have what I need to run 3x7 Seraphim with any loadout combination, so the plastic Seraphim are destined to be Zephyrim. I'll harvest swords for them from my existing Sister Superiors (full hand swap rather than just the sword) and then sub guard chainswords on the infantry until I run out. Ill yank now-illegal stormbolters and replace them with inferno pistols and maybe a condemnor for kicks. By the time I'm done I bet I'll have destroyed and rebuilt a dozen or more... so much for "done."

Gun swaps are super-easy on the multi-part Sisters holding their bolter with one hand - just nick the bolter off and substitute a Stormbolter of your choice.

The monopose ones may be easiest to leave as Bolters.

I'm fairly new to the hobby (started last summer). This is the second army I'm working on but I think it's the one I'm going to put a lot of effort into. My bf and roomie got me the CE box for christmas. Got a squad of battle sisters painted up already (working on uploading a picture!). This army has me super excited and into the hobby

Asmodai, solid tip on waiting for the multipose box... and where did you find those awesome name plates for your bases?

Nimiu, very cool paint scheme, and awesome bases too! I can't tell if you painted them on directly or punched little discs of something?

Thank you MacPhail! I hand painted those bases! I got the idea from a video on GW's youtube channel. I thought they would look really cool and thematic for an army of battle nuns Pretty quick to make too. A lot less time than my usual mud-paint and grass flocking.

What are you doing for the white armor?

Right now in the building phase of the big box. Once spring comes and I prime, they will be white armor and black robes. Thinking contrast paints for the white.

Why wait until spring to prime? Check out the Stynylrez line of primers by Badger (the airbrush company). You don't need an airbrush to apply them, you can use a standard brush.

I paid $12 on Amazon for a 4oz bottle and it's probably enough to paint an Apocolypse size Sisters army, even more if you apply it with an airbrush (paint goes further with an AB than with a traditional brush).

If you have an AB than prime indoors. You don't need a fancy mask or biohazard level precautions as they are acrylic. Paper carpenters masks work just fine for acrylic paints. If you don't have an AB grab a standard basecoat brush and go to town. I've used Citadel black primer with a brush and it's awful. I love the Stynylrez brand of primers and will never use another for indoor use. When the weather is warm (I live in MN) I prefer Krylon or Rustoleum primers because I don't need to clean out my AB after I prime.

And no, "hobby" primers are not BETTER than automotive/household aerosol primers, no matter what you might read or hear.

I've switched over almost completely to Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2X Paint & Primer... I still shell out for GW's Leadbelcher spray because I haven't been able to find anything as good, but for white, black, and gray I use 2X. Incidentally, Contrast works fairly well over the white.

I've got my eye on my next project... the Canoness from the army box needs a new head, less dangly stuff on her robe, an inferno pistol, and the biggest chainsword I can find in my bits box for a Bloody Rose Canoness with Benificence. It's a model that absolutely dominates on the table and that I'm sick of proxying. I'll get started this weekend after I get done with this month's painting contest.

Paint + primer products are not primer. Primer and paint are 2 entirely different things that do entirely different jobs. Paint and primer in 1 is a sales gimmick that is based on peoples ignorance of primers primary purpose. They say it because 1) it has good coverage. Because people think primers job is a stain blocker. 2) the paint sticks to itself. Which all paint does. This product might be working fine for you, which is fine. But make no mistake, you are just base coating.
You havent primed anything.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Do you reckon that I could pull off a convincing Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor with the Sisters box? I'm thinking that if I use the torso with the big =][=, the Condemnor Boltgun and the Power Sword, that might work.

9 Sisters and a counts-as Canoness is ca. 150pts in Kill Team, is the why.

Still building the box. One thing I dislike is the duplicate poses, especially in small squads. Cut the guide pegs off the arm and head, and clipped and repositioned the “I” on the bolt pistol arm so it hangs better in the new position.

Sister 3B, and her not-twin.

Edit:
Sister 3c was a little harder to make unique without a lot of work. Altered the angle of the arm for a more cross-body duel wielding pose.

Do the sisters come with enough helmet heads for everybody and people just choose to go with bare heads or are there not enough of the bits?

I can’t speak for the full kit (but IIRC from following rumors it has plenty of helmets).

The big box has two heads for the battle sisters on the B sprue, the one you get 2x of. The A spure with the unique models just has one head per body IIRC.

I chose to use half unhelmeted ones to help make them look different and less clone-like.

This. And with me having 2 copies of big box I also positioned heads to look different way so with 4 identical poses each head type/position is unique at least.

From 2 big box, 6 BSS box and 2 retributor apart from ~10 celestians for alternative colour scheme(waiting for more of melee options like Zephyr so I can do the bloody rose detachment properly) last 12 power armour ladies are nearly done for pre-gold stage. Then just the gold details to about 80 sisters and then power armour + repentia are done...Next 30 arco flagelants and then exorcists and walkers...

Did run into issue in game for separating squads so decided I'll forego uniform black base trim and do one colour, one squad. I can duplicate colour on clearly different models(seraphim and foot infantry) but troop sisters, dominions, retributors and dominions get each own unique colours. Decided to go:

Troop: green, blue, red, yellow, purple, black
celestian: gold
dominion: silver
retributor: white, orange

That's the first 10 colours. Arco flagelants, repentia, seraphim will use same colours. If(or rather when...) I get more infantry squads need to come up with more distinct colours. Guess could go for light/dark versions or do 2 coloured ones.

Hurts flexibility a bit(no swapping superiors etc) but keeps game going smoother and less chance of unintentional cheating.

It's hard to be 100% about it but from looking at the sprue pics on the GW website it does appear there are enough helmets for everyone, even if you don't want to use that stupid 'face-flap' one.

Minimum of 9 regular helmets for sure.

I know Jancoran does this and swears by it. I've seen someone out there making little rings of plastic or vinyl that click onto the base for this purpose, so you can still change squad composition. Movement bases are another option. I just leave a little gap between units or change the facing if they have to mingle.

Assembled first exorcist. Fun kit. Easier to assemble than marine vehicles have been though tons of bits. Painting will be quite an undertaking...

Drilled up holes to tracks to which I inserted magnets. 4 magnets, exorcist hangs upside down if I felt so inclined. Normally I will carry 4 exorcists on bottom of my big box leaving layer of infantry it seems up. Might have to skip the cherubs or at least magnetize them for transport.

One thing I think I've found with the actual Battle Sisters kit is that it's pretty easy to make 2 units including Superiors from one box. I think if you use Battle Sister A as a second Superior (she's the one that can optionally take a Simulacrum or have her helmet under her arm) it works good, especially if you can put any bits on her that make her stand out (thinking of the little dove with the scroll for mine). If you want to make Dominions with 4 specials, you're kind of hosed on the others, but then you probably could use a few extra Bolter girls anyways, or another actual Simulacrum bearer, or a Heavy Weapon sister, or something.

Edit: Sorry, I should elaborate a little bit. On Sister A, you're good to use her as a Superior as long as you don't want a Combi-weapon, and even with those you might be able to pull it off with a little bit of modelling work. And maybe you could swap out the Bolt Pistol with a spare Chainsword from a Space Marine or something (unlikely you'll have a spare Sisters one).
