I just recently order some sabers from Ultrasabers and while they do have their own forum (http://www.saberforum.com/), they don't talk about non-Ultrasabers brands, which makes perfect sense, but is kinda limiting for someone just getting into the hobby.

As a long-time Dakkanaut, and 40K-only hobbyist for the last decade+, it looks like I'm finally starting a new hobby and was wondering if there's any other Dakkanauts that also have sabers, either to duel or just display,

I never ordered a lightsaber but me and my nephews went to a homedepot and bought a bunch of pipe and other crap to build our own lightsabers. You can do a lot with 20.00 and some pvc.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Hi I got back into Sabres a few years ago if your just starting out then try The Rebel Armoury it's pretty much the best forum for sabers.

As for the sabres themselves depending on how much you want to spend at the high end is "Solos Hold" expensive but well designed and they aim for as accurate as possible to the original props. I have there version of Kanens saber from Rebels and it even breaksdown if built right.

Another reputable designer is kr sabers in the uk great quality and good prices I have there thermal detonator and assorted Sabres.

FB has quite a few one man operations that do limited runs of movie and EU sabers I recently got Darth Mauls sabre from solo excellent looking piece of kit.

If I get a chance over the weekend I will take some photos of sabers I have and stick them up.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

I always figured the sabers you can buy at places like Spencer’s would break since they seem made of glass. Best to build like LARP weapons w/PVC and make it have a good effect.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yeah your not going to be fighting with any offical store bought Sabres, the guys who fight with them use hilts made from aircraft grade aluminium and blades made from polycarbonate 2x to 3x thicker than the factory made ones they always light up but don't always have sound as the electronics can be delicate. You would be looking at around £60 to £100 for parts and they are often refered to as stunt sabers.

At the other end of the scale you have shelf sitters that are designed to be screen accurate and have full light and sound normally with screen accurate sounds where available these also are where you find gimmicks like double blades and x hilts like kylos. The best also have
Internals and saber Crystal's that can be seen when the hilt is partially dismantled or in other ways like the force unleashed saber and if given the thick blade of a stunt saber you could fight with them but that would be crazy due to the cost.

A good hilt will be between £150 - £500 then another £100 - £150 or so for the electronics the blade will be £35 and you need a chassis to hold the electronics normally from shapeways somthing basic would be £30-£50, however if you want a saber crystal and fancy internals then your normally looking at printing in metals so steel.brass and copper at low budget but I have see and used precious metals such as silver, gold or platinum for the best looking reveals which at shapeways prices are no joke.

Finally if you have the cash and you know where you can find them you can get custom made hilts based on pretty much any source, a well respected hilt designer was selling a double bladed saber based on a design from the old republic video game. It is the one saber I want above all others as the detail work on it is amazing he was selling it complete with all internals and blades even with a heavy discount it was €2500 and I have seen more expensive hilts with moving internals like spinning Crystal's and gears etc.
