I'm looking to run a small Nidzilla list in a ZM 750pt game soon, and it's been a long time since I made a nids list, so I could use some advice!

Wanted to go for the Nidzilla type list. what I have so far -

Carnifex - Twin Devourer, Scything Talons, Spore Cysts, Enhanced Senses, Thresher tail
Carnifex - Twin Devourer, Scything Talons, Spore Cysts, Enhanced Senses, Thresher tail
Carnifex - Twin Devourer, Scything Talons, Spore Cysts, Enhanced Senses, Thresher tail

As the core of the list. The current thinking for the rest of the list is:

Hive Tyrant (walking) - Twin devourer, rending claws (not sure what psychic powers to hive it)

3 Tyrant guard with Impalers

20 hormagaunts

This adds up to 752 points, easy enough to shuffle around to get it down to below 750.

I'm not sure about the Tyrant guard though. They're probably one of the best units in the codex, but having only 3 of them stationary in a small list seems like they might not pull their weight. Not too sure. Same with the hormagaunts really.

I was thinking of going with the custom traits of "Monsters ignore penalties for moving and shooting" and "Monsters get +1 attack in combat when charging/charged", as all the monsters in this list are capable of utilising both... again, not too sure though.

Would appreciate any thoughts

Welcome to monster nids! I run the same kind of thing with my nids. One thing I'll say to you, if you plan to run fexes give them one role, don't mix them. I run screamer killers as my assault fexes and quad devourer fexes for shooting. The fexes you have there are mildly effective in shooting and nothing special in combat. Think about running old one eye too, he may be expensive but he gives some great buffs.

Anyway, for your tyrant. I'd be tempted to give him a venom cannon if he's walking. Odds are he won't see combat and the longer range gun will help him to be useful for longer. For psychic powers I usually run mine with catalyst and the horror. If you go for a venom cannon give him the heightened senses warlord trait so he can knock fliers out of the sky. Preferably he needs wings though, your current set up would be fine with wings.

Three hive guard isn't a lot but at this point level it should be enough. It depends how monster you want to go. The list I run has some rippers as troops and then it's all monster but it's totally viable to have some mid size models in there too.

Since I posted this the list has changed a bit (though I'm still unsure about it).

Don't think I have the points for an old one eye... Unless I literally forget about anything other than big monsters.

Here's my current list -

Broodlord - Resonance barb, synaptic lynchpin
12 genestealers
15 hormagaunts

3x Carnifexes (as above, mixed loadouts, but maybe I should focus on one of the other).

Problem with carnifexes with all guns, is they get trapped in combat with no weapons if they get charged. And I won't have much in the way of screens with this list.

Alternatively I could go with -

Old one Eye
3x carnifex (whatever loadout)

- Leaves me 184 points for troops

For the broodlord list, I'd be afraid that your infantry will evaporate turn 1. I'd maybe drop a fex to flesh out the infantry squads. I like the feel of this list a lot though.

For the ooe version, you could slot in a neurothrope and three ripper swarms. That could give you some psychic support and 5cp, but you'd keep your melee vulnerability. Maybe use an acid maw dakka fex to lead the group, or two? The maw would be more of an assault deterrent when combined with ooe lurking right behind them

You could also just slot in two cheap melee fexes for those points, going all in on big stompy bugs.
