So where is Psychic awakening heading?

I am enjoying the Psychic awakening stuff. I genuinely am looking forward to what comes next for 40k and what story line progresses and what may change with the PA stuff.

Imperium/Dark Imperium armies getting doctrines or equivalents.The other rules for other armies.

The trying to streamline certain soup lists.

Does make me think though what might be next. 9th ed rumors stirring up more and more. Primarch news going quiet. No one expecting a primarch aside from maybe Fulgrim this year. Even the DA fans (myself included) seem to abandoned getting the Lion before 2021.

What do people think is next. Me personally, I think an 9th ed is on it's way. PA will lead to a climax that rushes in a new set of rules. (but not too different that all this PA content is null and void). I think 9th will be a new BRB that's compatible with all current books and rules, but will have more the mechanics fine tuned. (with a bunch more lore released of course).

Where is it heading? No where
The finished all codexes, so they came up with PA to sell people more books. They throw in some scraps of rules to make people buy them.
Throw in some generic SM stuff into specific SM books to make more people buy it.

What comes after? Maybe 9th. Maybe 8th version 2. Probably a new rotation of codexes.

We know what comes next. The Indomitus Crusade ends and we're back to 5 minutes to midnight.

Next? Growth for the sake of growth...
More spin offs and dilution.
Lots of cards. Special dice that are necessary for the game maybe... rules updates spread through 6 books over 2 years plus indices plus codices plus basic rule boiks plus chapter approved...
No sense waiting to see what GW will do next.

In the beginning of PA, many hypothesized persistent spells coming to 40k, and I still think that is possible and even likely; they are finally actually talking about increasing numbers of humans awakening into their psychic potential.

I expect new models for Astra telepathica- not just new sculpts, but new units. That plus persistent spells would make a fitting final installment in a series called psychic awakening.

I also expect an Imperial Agents dex. And then some serious Xenos support. What I wish for is that Kill Team gets used as a release/ value add vehicle for the DE.

I want Vect and the Dias of Destruction. I want Baron Sathonyx, Duke Sliscus, Lady Malys and Keradruahk. All of these have had rules before, and Vect was a model once.

Then I want Tau alien auxilia, beginning with a Kroot dex.

And yes, campaign books ARE exactly how GW plans to update dexes, so another campaign will come, though this one might last long enough that it'll take until 2021 before the next one starts.

2.0 dexes for other factions will come, but only after campaign books have developed enough new content to make them viable.

I don't think we'll see a formal 9th. Their rules engine works all year; they'll compile the new shiny as necessary, but never fast enough to make it feel like a hard reset.

40k 8th Ed brought people back AND created new players. Anyone who falls into that category might disappear if they hit the hard reset button; because the first group is one that already walked away once and the second is a group whose willingness to endure an edition shift has never been tested, GW can't rely on them sticking around if some doofus hits reset instead of continuing to move forward.

They added Primaris to SM to see if a whole new focus could be added to an existing faction without destroying the customer base. They have their proof of concept. Some of the other factions may get a similar set of alternative units long term.

Phasing out finecast with plastic substitution is also likely to continue and/or accelerate as well.

Basically this. PA is the next round of supplements that contain rules that players want which encourages people to buy them. Also some of them are great from a narrative point of view and also advance the fluff.

I'm expecting that once this round is complete in the next month or two they will start V2 of the codexes (which will essentially roll up and invalidate the PA books from a rule perspective) for the next 12-18 months (apparently 9th ed is rumorered to be dropped in the middle of that)

What comes next? Plastic aspect worries of course..

I assume the PA will finish and there will be no meaningful shift in any form in terms of the "story".
So they will move onto the next campaign.

Theres been a leak of Primaris Landspeeder and probably more primar"ors" of some kind.
So I expect there will have to be another campaign book(*cough* SM supplement *cough*) containing its rules + strats to milk people for the $$ on top the premium new model prices.

Then maybe 9th or new codex cycle.

Honestly, if it's anything like previous editions (and the fact that we already have multiple Space Marine codexes in the span of one edition), the Codex train will just start going 'round again.

Alternatively or in addition to, we're probably likely to see some rules & power bloat supplements, stuff that adds army construction power boosting mechanics and new abilities and the like. I don't expect we'll see much innovation in mechanics or formats, though likely new missions.

They will need a consolidation action like CA19. GW doesn't want to keep all these books in print forever.

My bet would be that the PA books become "invalidated" when they are rolled up into the next codex, until the next narrative round of supplements start and add new layers etc

Codex > Campaign Supplement > Edition roll up > Codex etc

The end goal is to sell you more of their garbage printed gaming material.

I think people are right about the rolling up PA stuff. Once they're all done, I think there will be a consolidation of sorts. Maybe in the form of a CA style update, or in the form of putting the PA content into a new codex.

What do we all think might release models wise too? *We all know more primaris is on the way, primaris bikers/termi's etc*

Personally I think we're going to get some new inquisition stuff soon. and I think some new emperors children models are on horizon with the ever growing fulgrim rumors.

Oh, yeah. The Fulgrim Rumours. Haven't seen those in a while.

I have it from reliable inside-sources that Fulgrim will arrive right after the plastic Thunderhawk. Also Cult Marines will go up to 2 Wounds.



Either way, AdMech is clearly in the pipeline. Could be just a one-off with the AdMech PA. Or maybe it's part of a "medium-sized" AdMech release. And the next Primaris wave is also inbound (and possibly pre-viewed at LVO), assuming it wasn't a hoax.

I expect that GW will then turn to 2.0 Codexes, which PA was a preview of. I do expect each 2.0 Codex will be more than just 1.0 + PA rules.

My hope is that GW will take some time between the end of PA before rolling into the new round of Codexes to give the game some time to shake everything out. I would hate for them to send a new Codex to print before all the PA rules have been active for a few months at least so that they have a good gauge on the ways the various codexes interact with each other.

And there may be a WH40K 9.0 at some point. Or maybe not.
