I have been looking for bits that are in scale with the Primarch miniatures from forgeworld. I see that some companies have their own take on a primarch model, but I want to build it up piece by piece if possible, rather than a count as. The bit I am most interested in finding are head sculpts, most are too small for primarch size it seems but to be honest I don’t even know what scale they would. Also, I realize the size of the models vary, so I was leaning towards the Guilliman, or Dorn model sizes. I have collected a few bits I want to use, but the head, chest, and mid section to upper thigh I difficult for me to judge. Are there any Age of Sigmar models that could be used as a base?

If you find anything suitable on Thingiverse or another 3D repository and you find someone with a resin printer, you are home free. The 3D files are seamlessly scalable, that means if you find a neat Primaris or Secundaris chest, you can decide how much you want to size it up so it looks right with our other parts.

Primarch heads really aren't much bigger than most space marine heads.

You can get actual primarch heads from egghead miniatures, although they tend to sell out fast. To be fair the primarch heads aren't much bigger than some of the 30k character sculpts either. Kharn, shadow captain koryvdae etc. Their heads are basically the same size. As are the new primaris heads, and the new chaos heads. Even some of the old heads, like the stern guard veterans would work, as they were massive for the time.

Ah thank you Stephanius I will look into that. Been wondering about whether a 3D printer would save me money and be creative.

Also thank you queens_annes_revenge for clarifying the head size. I thought Guilliman’s model had a tiny head. Now to eBay for possible options.

I have been looking at other discussions about similar questions on the primarch models and it seems to be that 54mm miniatures might also be an option, since they are essentially twice the size as the 28mm models. Hopefully I can find some companies that make good 54mm models and bits.

It depends what you're going to put them on. 54mm heads are far too large to put on a standard primarch torso for example.

Before they had their firesale Dreamforge had an upscaled plastic display model of their infantry - they have a very distinct power armor look that would definitely stand out.

I managed to snag one during the sale, but I'm sure there are probably some out there on ebay or such.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Can't recommend one enough. You won't necessarily save money, but you will have a lot more from the money you do spend, if that makes sense.

Thanks again for the heads up queens_anne_revenge, I ended up finding the Arkdy kabuki models primarch stand in, its metal but seems to be the right height(listed at 50mm in height) in massive armor, I can swap the head out. I also got the kabuki models Celestial Knight(aka knock off Emperor) for $20 so I will look at the two and seem which one is in scale to my Guilliman Dark Imperium model. Hopefully I can kitbash them or at least have bits for alternate versions.

I will also look into that infantry model ScarletRose, though if it is rare it might be more than I want to pay because I am cheap.

JamesY I guess I understand, there is the additional investment of the printer but I assume the materials are expensive, yet you get a whole lot more options? Either way I need to figure out something because with all the new Primaris stuff, Sisters and Custodes I am afraid how easy it can be to spend hundreds so quickly haha.

@Musselman what I mean is that yes, you will save money on things if you would genuinely bought them anyway, but the likelihood is that you will find files for all sorts of things that you hadn't considered, that you will end up printing far more than you anticipated, maybe buy things to complete these extra projects that you can't print, and therefore spending more than you might think expect. I am not spending more on my hobby since getting one, but I am definitely not spending less (just got a bigger pile of stuff instead .)

Haha I see @JamesY. I am definitely intrigued as I have used shapeways.com before and I love their bits. Great quality but I assume they have a fantastic/expensive set of printers. Any suggestions on good beginner printer?

I have a thread in this subforum about my experiences with 3d printing, in case you're interested:

Wow thanks Albertorius for the heads up. Didn’t think my question would lead to 3D printing but now I am very interested. Any questions I will refer to your previous thread.

Sorry for the delay in commenting . I'm using the same printer as albertorius, any anycubic photon. Honestly, just with that you can print a quality that equals the majority of what you can buy from existing companies. The only downside is the small printing bed, but that's hardly a complaint considering the price.
