Does this have eldar in it?

I hope its not as disappointing as DOW 3 game was lol.

No, at least not yet.

Current factions are
Base version - SM, AM, Orks, Necrons
DLC - Nids, CSM, Tau (soon)

I don't think anything will be as disappointing as DOW 3, even the dev's pulled the plug on that failed attempt at a MOBA abomination

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

I got a bundle on all the DOW games and to be honest I was very disappointed with all of them.

I think gladius is a fun game. Is it technically a 4X game? No. I think that stands for explore, expand, exterminate and something else. It has those but generally 4X has diplomacy and that is lacking but I'm totally ok with that for 40k. Gladius is far less an rts game. If I had to say it's more a turn-based strategy but it is very similar to a 4X game. I suppose we'll just have to live with 3 X's which makes gladius sound like a porno now ;P.

Exploit is the 4th X in 4x. Explore, Expand, Exploit. Exterminate.

Tau is out, and it's fantastic and beautiful. Most of it. Don't like a lot of the infantry models. Their heads are 1/3 of the whole body.

But Stormsurge is beautiful in the game.

Diplomacy is implemented as debuffs. Using diplomacy lowers city stats and morale and such.

My policy is to not buy any 40K video game without either Dark Eldar or Tau in the base game, I refuse to buy DLC to play one of my factions like some money cattle.

Now if one of my factions were in the base game I'd probably buy the other if it was DLC. But somewhere I have to draw the line.

This game doesn't look promising anyway, the scale is offputting.

Why DLC phobia? Tau aren't even one of the typical "core" races so unless the game is focused around them or the game is including all the races (like Battlefleet 2) then chances are Tau will be an expansion race.

Heck if you look at Warhammer Total War 2 half the races are DLC.

Do I sound like I care? If you don't please me, change it until it does or forget my money. I don't need 40K specific video games to play and am simply not desperate to hand over money for nothing. I don't give a singular crap about Space Marines, Chaos, Eldar or Orks in a video game setting so why should I buy.

Jeff likes Orks. He buys game X for 30 bucks, it has Orks in it.

Jim likes Tau. He buys game X for 30 bucks, and a DLC to get Tau for 15 more bucks.

Jeff and Jim get the exact same enjoyment, but Jim paid 50% more. Jim is an idiot.

Jeff and Jim aside, most people play multiple factions, especially in video games. So everyone else gets much more enjoyment than Jeff or Jim, so they're equally idiots for only liking one specific aspect of a game.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Well there's one benefit for Lofty at least - as Chaos are a DLC race you can play the game without being exposed to helldrakes in-game (at least against the AI in singleplayer).

But yeah whilst financial considerations are important, they can be mitigated by waiting for sales somewhat. Also Voss points out that very few people, esp in computer games, will stick to just one single race the whole time. By all means many will have favourites (esp in a game like Gladius where armies play differently to each other); but most people will play a whole range of armies.

It's not like tabletop where a new army is a huge financial and time sink to get on the table.
