The CIS tank is also coming and most of the cards for both have been leaked.

In spite of how I felt so far, I'm starting to warm to the design after seeing the 360 view. That paintjob isn't for me either and I think it threw me off quite a bit,. I might actually get one of these after all.
Might be cool to model Aayla poking out of the top hatch like on her card artwork, too.

I will likely get one or two, while hoping they also release an Imperial variant, considering they used them as well. At least in the EU.

It would be nice if Fantasy Flight realized existing crossover potential. There's no reason why the Republic couldn't have Wookiees, or the Separatists Bossk.

There's no doubt they will, but there's a production schedule, and they're switching to hard plastic for everything, which takes time. They also need to let current stock levels to dwindle before rereleasing anything.

R2 and 3PO have cards for both Republic/Rebels.

I have thought that some of the Rebel kits would also be cool Separatists tropers that aren't just droids. Especially as the AT- RT could just be straight off the battlefield as salvaged Clone gear.

To be honest, the Rebel kits would work as both GAR and Separatist kit.
The ARCs, Commandos, and Clones period did start up resistance movements on Separatist planets same as the Separatists did on Republic ones.

Counts as is fun and all, but the main reason it often gets passed up is that its often simply hard to market.

I don't play Legion yet so I don't know if there's a rules mechanic conflict, but it seems like there's no reason to market it as such. Just get together with your gamemates and do it if there's a general consensus that it would be cool in-game. Back in the dark ages we didn't rely on the games companies to give us the ok.

Well, I was mostly under the assumption that there was a call for official support for these models in armies. If you're not concerned about official faction lines, you can do whatever you want. The game doesn't really have many mechanical links behind units.

I'd argue it's actually pretty simple to market but FFG and Legion are not set up to handle the approach this requires. Twenty years ago that's exactly what you got from GW and it's considered a (now lost) golden age. But then GW at the time had rules that were divorced from the models and a rules publication process that is unlike FFG's and very much able to handle the addition of new units and variant armies that the players could then use converted models from the existing lines to represent. Converting may not be for everyone but back then a lot of people liked this way of expanding the game and their enjoyment of it, and plenty of people still long for those days. I never had the impression that GW had a hard time selling people on the concept.
With Legion everything is set in stone and strictly available to the unit expansion it comes with. Alongside a pool of generic upgrade cards, yes, but things like specific special weapons are upgrades for their specific unit only. Want your Rebels to wear a warm jacket and still use a scatter gun? Nope, gun doesn't work in the cold. Now, this certainly helps with game balance so I'm not complaining about it too loudly, but purely from a counts as perspective this is the least helpful system of rule distribution you can have.
Add to that that Star Wars is only a licensed property and FFG may not be able to do representations that do or could exist in the lore but deviate from what Disney allows them to publish (no idea how strict the license agreement is in actuality, but I imagine it's pretty strict) and you have all the ingredients for a setup that can't cope with an open representation of the property.

I get the impression there's a certain competitive culture attached to FFG games where many people only consider the default options acceptable. Official support is kind of mandatory in that case.
Plus unlike GW FFG actually manages game balance that's worth a damn, so screwing around with army rosters may actually have the potential to break things. You'd have to put thought into whether the unit options, rules and points cost are OK in their new context or need tweaking.

Is the game balance really that tight that adding a squad of Wookies alongside your Clones would break things, or a squad of Rebel Troopers and an AT-RT to the CIS? (Honest question as I haven't played Legion yet). I don't mean house-ruling anything, simply buying them right out of the box.

I don't think I'm really qualified to judge that. I only play casually. But for myself I can say that every game I've played so far has been either close or not so decisive a victory that better tactics and a little luck couldn't have turned the tables. It's a competently made game in my opinion.
The issue to me is more of a social nature. Because there are no noticeable balance issues (at least where I play) the game offers undisputed common ground between players and I find it of concern to introduce house rules because there is a quality bar to be reached, and not everyone has the same faith in an casual player as in a professional game designer. I'm not saying it's impossible to introduce units into armies for which they were not made, nor that it necessarily causes balance issues. For the latter I'd actually cite my experience that games haven't been swingy and therefore most units should be fairly balanced and not cause any problems if transplanted. Units may be easier in this regard than characters, too, since the latter are the ones that have most special rules heaped on them. But again, my experience is that people are averse to house ruling complete rule sets that have proven to work. Don't fix what ain't broke and all that. That may be a legitimate hurdle, is all I'm saying.
Obviously if you have a regular group that may not be a concern at all.

No more than any other game system with factions.
