Hello,

i hope i am right in this category.

I want to start with 40k this year and would like to start wird the imperial fists, since they've been always my most favourite Chapter. 1000 Points seems to be the best starting points to get into 40k, right?

Could anybody give me a good recommendation for a starter list?

P.S. not a new player in the tabletop scene. Playing AoS and Bolt Action for about three years now.

Hu, good question, frankly the best starter army is one you are able to field locally. Meaning maybee put an ear to the ground in your local scene, other then that yes, 1000 pts is a good point, small enough to get it done fast, (depending on army paintstyle really,) big enough to allow some options.

ATM primaris stuff is the new hottness, beyond that i'd reccomend to be atleast able to field a battalion detachment, meaning 2 HQ and 3 troops.

The question does remain, are you and your scene more competitively minded or more laisser faire.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Thanks for your answer!

Depends. Some games are more laisser faire, other are more competetive. So i want something versatile.

And yes, guess most of the old stuff is kinda useless now (tactical marines and co.) - so the SC could be a good start?

Which SC do you mean?

The vanguard one, is ok value due to the insane price of eliminators ...

Since i am not a SM player (chaos) i' can only give you somewhat limited suggestions, but reivers aren't all that great, also to my knowledge you'd be short one hq for a battalion.

Do you own the books allready?

Reivers aren't in a good place at the moment. They can get some damage done in melee, and they are good at tieing enemy into melee - but that's it. As Imperial Fist, you are more about the shooting anyway. One battalion should be your goal now, so will need 2 HQs and 3 Troops. For troops, I would suggest Intercessors (two squads of 5 guys is always good place to start) and maybe a squad of Incursors?

If you do not own the books yet, I would suggest buying this product as your first purchase. Basically get that codex free.

Then there is the question for the second HQ.

A psyker may very well be very usefull, another leutnant or other something like that?

Yeah I think Primaris Librarian in Phobos could be a pretty long lasting option? Opens up to learn the psychic game as well.

edit// grafcox I think there is a minimal discount on actual minis if we ignore Codex being free.

Would be the half of the Dark Imperium Box + IF Codex a good option?

Yeah I say it is a decent way to go as well. Just note that you need both: Codex: Space Marines and Supplement: Imperial Fists to play.

If you can get access to one, half the shadowspeare box (primaris phobos vs chaos space marines) are also a solidstart box, with 3 officers, 2x5 man infiltirator troop choices, and two 3 man squads (eliminators and suppressors). covers around 670 or so of your 1000 points.
know no fear is another good set to split, it was one of the cheap options.

So far the dark imperium half seems more pleasent to me. What would be some good additions to it?

Edit:

I found this list on reddit. Could this be a good start to work for?

Primaris Captain 83 -Stalker
Primaris Lieutenant 70 -Stalker
5x 5 Intercessors 425 -Stalkers
2x Invictor Tactical Warsuit 272 -Autocannon
2x 3 Eliminators 144

I say it is a very good starting list. You can afford running one 10-man Intercessor with those amounts (to get the most out of stratagem usage).
