So I have 2 questions regarding an interaction with a Thousand Sons stratagem and the Cult of Duplicity's Warlord trait "Duplicitous Tactician" which allows you "At the start of the first battle round, before the first begins, select up to D3 Cult of Duplicity units from your army. Remove those units and this Warlord from the battlefield then set them up again following the normal deployment rules for those units and the mission being played."

The first interaction is if I can take a Cult of Duplicity Scarab Occult Terminators unit, deploy them on the table and then use the warlord trait to put the in reserve (Deepstrike)?

The second interaction is if I can take a squad of Cult of Duplicity Rubric Marines, deploy them on the table and then after using the Warlord Trait use the stratagem "Risen rubricae" (In the same book) which reads "Use this stratagem when you set up a Rubric Marines unit from your army during deployment. That unit can be set up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9" from the enemy deployment zone and any enemy models. You can only use this stratagem once per battle" So I would put them on the table normally, use the warlord trait, and then use the stratagem on the unit, can I do this?

No this was not addressed in the Ritual of the Damned FAQ.

Thanks!

The Emperor's Children tactical perfection stratagem (sp?) allows them to redeploy into teleport as you mention, based upon a clarification it received in a FAQ. As such, you should be able to use that as precedence and zoop your terminators into teleport.

As for the second part, you won't be able to use the Risen Rubricae stratagem right before the first turn begins since deployment is over. You could place them in your deployment zone, especially if RR is no longer a good move when you see that you don't go first.

I use Cult of Duplicity, as well, and there are multiple Thousand Sons and other players who have come to the conclusions above.

Could you clarify the second part for me? So are you saying that I would use the stratagem (Probably as my last drop), and then I can use it to make them deploy in my own deployment zone instead of the RR move? So it would act as an "Undo" button?

Sorry bud, I'm saying that my interpretation is that you wouldn't even be able to elect to use the RR stratagem in that time between deployment and after the seize roll has been made but that you could select them as part of the redeploy d3.

Sometimes, depending on what's happening, it's wise to drop a brick of Rubrics with RR right near their doorstep to affect their deployment. In most other cases, yes, it'd be my last deployment since I'd have a good idea of where their stuff is going to deploy and I'd be able to put them in a good spot for when I get turn 1.

..and if we don't get turn 1, we d3+warlord redeploy as per Duplicitous Tactician, and I'd probably use that ability to shift the big brick of rubricae to a safer place.

Sorry does that help?

I see now, so the warlord trait is actually much better as you will know whether or not you go first before you use the warlord trait. Cult of Duplicity seems like it has some major potential. Thanks for the help.

I know this thread is about 3 months old now, but I just wanted to say that I didn't even think about how the strats and warlord traits could interact that way. I will definitely be using this tomorrow in a small game I'm playing against a buddy.

I've been looking for sneaky ways to get the jump on some of the guys in my local store.

So thanks for pointing out some awesome tricks I can get away with as a Thousand Sons player.
