I've been reading the rules on shooting sequencing, the ork codex and the FAQ but just need some additional dakka-based guidance.

The SAG (after the FAQ) says "Each time this unit is chosen to shoot with, roll once to determine the Strength characteristic of this weapon" therefore that happens at step 1 of the shooting sequence "choose unit to shoot with" and before step 2 "choose targets"

The souped-up shokka says "Before firing this weapon, roll once to determine the Strength of all its shots" which appears to me to be at stage 3 "choose ranged weapon". The vigilus FAQ doesn't update this to be in line with the codex FAQ. However it could be construed that 'before firing this weapon' could be at any point during the shooting phase before firing the weapon

How do you play it?

RAW the 2 do work differently. Typical GW they didn't touch it in FAQ. Thank the bespoke rules and lack of USR. People wanted to get rid of USR's. They WANTED this sort of stuff happen. And how there's now 2 different types of imperial melta guns Enjoy! People got what they wanted.

The SAG is at step 1 of the shooting phase, and the other gun is at any point of the shooting phase before you roll to hit with it.

SM and Sisters have "Roll two dice, pick any one" for their Meltas in half range.
Other Imperials have "Roll two dice, take the higher."

Indeed the two guns work differently because GW never errata'd the Relic SAG.

Something that came up with me while reading this. When double tapping the SSAG: use the same stats as you used the first turn or roll them again?
I remember i saw something somewhere about it but can't seem to find it..

Dakka is the ork word for shooting, but the ork concept of shooting is saturation fire. Just as there is no such thing as a "miss" in a target-rich environment, there is no such thing as a "dodge" in a bullet rich one

You would roll it again I guess. It says to roll it before you fire it. Otherwise you'd make one roll for the entire game if you carried it over.

You always roll again unless the unit has a rule that says otherwise, like lootas or burnas used to have.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.
