As far as I'm concerned, it is common practice in the community to use tactical re-rolls after having fast-dice rolled and I don't understand why because although it may be legal RAW (I'm not even sure it is), it's clearly against tactical playing as well as the game spirit in my opinion.

I'll give you an example to illustrate it. Say that an expensive model (IK or similar) is making a bunch of saves. I don't think that the IK player could, after having fast-diced rolled all saves, realizing that he'd had survived if he'd passed one more save than he did, re-roll one of the die, hoping to keep the model alive one more turn or sth. I see this situation over and over in batreps and games and I think it's illegal play.

Some may claim that the attacker could have chosen to resolve his attacks one by one, hence potentially forcing the IK player to decide whether to use a tactical reroll for one of his failed saves ahead of knowing the outcome of all the save rolls. I don't agree with this view though. In my opinion, if the IK player believes that he may use a tactical reroll, he should roll his saves one at a time. People may claim that it will slow down play, but I don't think that's the case because the IK player could always fast dice roll say most the saves first, then roll the very few remainder one by one.

Your opponent can then allocate the wounds one at a time, making the saving throws and suffering damage each time as appropriate

Pretty much this. It's frustrating that so many people think you can.

@OP: To reiterate, it's a moot point because the scenario you describe cannot happen.

And if you changed it to be in hit rolls, there's nothing in the rules that say fast rolling has to be exactly the same outcome as rolling one by one. Some infer this somehow, but it's not in the rules.

Yes, you are at an advantage to fast roll hit rolls in that you have more information to decide if you want to use a command reroll. Yes, this is fine.

I'll be more concise because I'm not clear after having read the replies received so far whether:

1) is it legal to use a tactical reroll after having fast diced rolled?
2) regardless of 1), it's common practice, isn't it?

Yes and yes.

At least in my experience, as what constitutes com.on practice is somewhat subjective.
