Hi I've been away from the scene for 20+ years. I see the warhammer universe is even more multicultural than it used to be. An exciting array of new races and creeds and all hating and killing each other which is the common sense approach to multiculturalism.
Just wondered whether a pure custodes infantry list with deepstriking aquilon army would be fun to play? As a note, I'm not into tournaments, would be casual playing against a few friends necrons, tyranids, chaos marine and guard armies.
I also dont like painting many models, dont like vehicles and hate imperial guard so normal guys and tanks arent going to do it for me. Too long in the actual army surrounded by tanks and normal idiots to want to spend money modelling them. I could tolerate having a distraction dreadnoight or two if needed,.,.
Anyway so will a 'walking and teleporting' custodes list of giant golden steroid dudes be fun at all, or is it rapidly shot off the table even at casual levels?

Custodes are collected for 2 main reasons.
1. Its one of the cheaper armies to build. With high points cost, elite models, you don't have to buy as much to get on the table. It's also not the hardest army to paint to get up to table top standards.
2. You don't like picking up a lot of models when you play. Its a fairly durable army againgst most other armies. Since you have less dudes on the table, but they all have 2+ armor and an invun, they tend to stick around longer. However, if your rolling bad you get wiped off the table pretty fast.
An all infantry army will work, and will likely not get tabled, but its fairly slow on the table and against knowledgable opponents wont get much action. They wont charge you unless they have really good melee guys and your shooting will be pretty lackluster so might not be the most exciting game.

Thanks Eignlazer, much appreciated. So not an A-grade tactical choice but at least not Z-grade either.

All-infantry is actually a fairly competitive version of Custodes IF you're playing with ITC terrain rules. The ability to put very durable and killy units out of LOS makes them great at board control. If you look at the top custodes list from LVO, it was all infantry. If you're already looking at Aquilons, Sagittarium Guard (also from forgeworld) are a decent way to add a little ranged firepower as well.
The difference between winning and losing a lot is going to be playstyle, that list wins by hiding and playing cagey.

Thanks greknight. Any chance you can expand on the acronym ITC?

It's the most popular tournament format and circuit on the Western side of the Atlantic. Tons of tournaments give you ITC League Points for ranking by faction at year's end. It's managed by Frontline Gaming.
All infantry can work but I'd recommend taking a Culexus Assassin to go with them. Doesn't ruin their bonus for being 'pure' Custodes and the Culexus has an 'all enemies fight last' strategem that can help a lot.

Independent Tournament Circuit.
In other types of play, footslogging custodes will struggle getting around and have difficulty dishing out the kind of raw firepower other factions can unless they are in melee combat (which is hard to do because of the aforementioned movement issues). Custodes need to have a 7" movement stat.

You'll need terminators and use of the teleport strategem to be able to get models to effective places. The forge world termies look ace and still have good rules. And they look really ace.
