So, looking for suggestions on audiobooks to listen to while in recovery from my upcomming surgery, preferably with lots of lore and SM goodness. I will be physically unable to read, hence audiobook.

I have read:
SoB omnibus 1&2.
Cain Series: all
Banblade series

Audiobooks: entire Eisenhorne series (Disliked these too many references that made no sense lord breaks)

I was looking at the audiobooks about the Custodes, or even The Dark Angels. I really love the way they show up in books, and everyone is like, don't piss it off. They are just in awe. Which is why I was considering a book about their exploits from their perspective.

Well, I'm obviously biased, but The Oubliette was an absolute delight for me to listen to. Katy Maw did SUCH an amazing job bringing it to life. Her voice work is top notch, especially given the difficult range of voices she was asked to do.

I quite enjoyed Know No Fear from the Horus Heresy series but I'm biased as both a long term UM player and it's my fav HH book.

I'm really enjoying the Reagent's Shadow right now, I reluctantly chose the most reviewed Audiobook on Audible, and it worked! The question is, They mention Tor-Garadon in the book, but I can't tell if it was pre-primaris Garadon or post?

So I have to post these since Horus Heresy novels are big and the Dark Angels do have a lot going on.

But I don't recommend the audiobooks because the main point of view character starts off as a 16-18 year old Human who becomes a Space Marine. The problem is the narrator voices the character as a child throughout all the books which makes him sound weird once he is a marine.

That being said Descent of Angels, Call of the Lion (Book 10 Short Story), Fallen Angels, Savage Weapons (Book 16, Short Story), Guardian of the Order (Book 31, Short Story), and Angels of Caliban.

Unremembered Empire is a great book which has the Dark Angel's Primarch, but has a lot of characters from previous books so its kind of hard to follow. I suggest getting Legion, Vulkan Lives, and Know No Fear before reading it.

Master of Mankind is one of the Best Custodes books and covers a lot of background lore.

I am Slaughter is 99p direct from Black LIbrary for a little while longer.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Whatever you do, don't get the Audiobook version of A Thousand Sons. The story itself is grand enough, but it may be the worst audiobook I've ever heard.

The Horus Trilogy (Horus Rising, False Gods, and Galaxy in Flames) I think are marginal as stories, but Toby Longworth does the audiobooks and he is amazing! He makes the fairly unimpressive narrative very entertaining and manages to portray all the characters in distinct and memorable ways.

I got Jain Zhar a few weeks ago...it was alright but there maybe better, had some really intresting lore on the Eldar right after the fall if your into that sort of thing. Though if your not a big Eldar fan i would pick something else.

IDK if they made audio books but the Horus Heresy series is awesome IMO.

I enjoyed reading the William King trilogy on Lord Solar Macharius, especially the second installment. They are similar to the others one you read in that they deal with the human aspect of the Imperial Guard.

Not an audiobook, but I read the Blood Ravens Omnibus while recovering from surgery.

Replaced the physical pain with mental anguish.

Helsreach is one of my favorite audiobooks so far. Templars vs Orks. I never really liked Templars until I listened to that. It made Grimaldus in particular very interesting.

I would also recomend the Horus Heresy Audio version of Betrayer. Also "Butcher's Nails" and "Chosen of Khorne". The last two are "Audiodramas" rather than books, but still fun. Same thing as the Helsreach example - I had never liked or understood the appeal of Angron/Kharn/the World Eaters until I listened to those. Very good imo.

Unfortunately I can't recommend and Dark Angels stuff as what I have listened to wasn't great.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Psiensis on the "good old days":

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

So, nioticed something in the first Eisenhorn book. When he is hunting what's his name in the icy Crypts; he comes across what he calls "dead Custodians" in Golden Ceramite armor. Am I to bleieve there were actual Adeptus Custodian Guard members on this weird not Terra planet? Or were they Adeptus Arbites in somehow Golden plate?

I was given to understand they were local enforcers who got power armor for some reason.

So new questions: in Reagent's Shadow two things remain unclear: How did the Minotaurs get Primaris Marines when no one knew where they were, and 2: What happened on the deck of the admirals ship? Did an assassin take the form of "Darren" and then just dissapear? Was it a Callidus? Can they do that, like literally turn invisible?
