I mean, i just cannot comprehend this. It's just too huge for me to get my mind around.

The Uk is a technological 21st century state, how can people in it believe that 5g phone service causes the corona virus? My mind just cannot encompass this.

How can anyone raised in a modern first world state, surrounded by technology, educated, brought up with television, computers, the net, etc, possibly think that EM signals carrying digital data could spread a physical, material biological virus? Electromagnetic waves are not matter,they cannot create a physical object and a virus is a physical object.

I mean the flat earthers, I honestly can't believe anyone can believe that, even after some idiot killed himself in a steam powered rocket to prove earth was flat. I finally just concluded they were epic level trolls because no oncecould believe the earth is flat, it's just not possible.

Then these come along. I can't even understand their belief here. Do they think that electromagnetic waves are carrying and infecting people with the corona virus? Are they saying it somehow creates it? How? "Mutating" ambient viruses into the covid 19? Do they really think that's possible? How can they be from a modern technological country and believe something that ignorant and impossible?

Is the internet and reality tv really making people that stupid? Is it even possible? Someone help me understand this if you can, I just feel overwhelmed here. I'm honestly finding it impossible to believe people in a state like the Uk could believe this. Is that just intellectual vanity? Are people really getting that stupid and ignorant? I'm must stunned by this.

Yeah, yeah, sure, in the warhammer 40,000 universe maybe a "warp tainted" broadcast could cause viruses to "mutate" into superdeadly forms, but I know (and am grateful for) the fact that 40k is just a cool game setting. What do these people believe?

It is intellectual vanity I'm afraid. This isn't people 'getting' that stupid and ignorant, this is the default. Being surrounded by technology doesn't mean they understand it, and education isn't particularly focused in that direction until college/university (and then only if they choose to pursue that direction)- elementary and 'high school education is about the very basics (reading/writing/arithmetic) and more about socialization and national identity.

People have a tendency to panic, and have a need to try to prove they have control in situations they have none. 'There's nothing you can do' is one of more stressful situations you can put a human in. So... even non-rational outlets happen.

Its also possibly mixed signals, 5G is 'supposed' to cause cancer. This comes from the scare over alleged cancers caused by phone masts, with 5G being far more intense than previous masts.
So people take the leap between one conspiracy and another. There is a good possibility that the vandals actually did hack down 5G masts due to risk of cancer, and the press were the ones who claimed it was because of COVID-19 instead.
There has been a lot of anti phone mast activism in the past, and plausible sounding claims that the technology is unhealthy to live near. 5G requires much denser mast coverage to work.
There is an unrelated conspiracy that 5G is part of one world surveillance, Illuminati etc. Plus the usual mainstream concerns it's a vessel for Chinese espionage, and as that one has support in the White House, and threatened trade talks at one point so you cant entirely ignore this.

Vandals could have pulled down masts for any of the above reasons, and the press will, if it suits them, blame the vandals motive as being a Coronavirus scare. It makes the vandals appear stupider, and makes for a better headline. Lazy sensationalist journalism is not uncommon in the UK, and most vandals don't broadcast an agenda. As there is nothing in any article on this to confirm a link between the vandalism and COVID-19 scare, it is highly likely that the vandals are against 5G for more 'mainstream' reasons, many of which are plausible than stupidity of the extremity that links a virus which has decent informative media saturation and 5G.

And the phone masts of all sorts causing cancer is a development of the electricity pylons cause cancer theory

but unsurprisingly almost nobody is willing to believe the electricity wires in your house cause cancer as people find electicity too useful

It's like people who complain of the dangers of wireless phones using their wireless broadband to talk to the world

It’s a good thing your head didn’t LITERALLY explode like your title would indicate. That would be a pretty big mess to clean up. You’d get serious props for typing without a head though.

Yes, I’m one of those people irked by others not knowing the difference between “literal” and “figurative”.

Also, on topic, this has been covered already. Human stupidity will always swell during a catastrophe. And blame will always go to the aliens, microwaves, phone lines, whatever. Beached baby whales are caused by aliens microwaving hot pockets and playing with the high-tide/low-tide lever while playing Angry Birds.

To attempt to alleviate the OP's anxiety, lets put things in perspective. While hard to fathom, at least in the larger picture, such actions are relatively minor at this point. Not so long ago, we'd have long since started seeing significant incidents of violence against various different minority groups in all sorts of places, so there's progress

Also, on top of people just being ignorant or stupid, there are also those who truly just don't mentally inhabit the same reality you or I may experience, either through mental illness or drugs or something else or a combination of things, and their actions aren't always fathomable, particularly in these times.
