If it were you, would you lean Puritan or Radical?
For my part I feel a stronger affinity with the Radical side.

Hah, I guess I can include an explanation...
Puritans and Radicals are the two schools of thought that are found among the Inquisition. Puritan inquisitors are dogmatic and uncompromising: purge all aliens with extreme prejudice, rain down holy fire on anyone whose faith deviates even a little bit, distrust psykers and their powers, and put your faith only in the Emperor and His works. Radicals, by contrast, have a more pragmatic bent. They are willing to fight fire with fire, and often treat the enemy of their enemy as their friend (or at least as a useful cat's-paw). Some Radicals engage in outright heretical and forbidden practices, such as binding daemons in mortal hosts in order to question them.
It is said that Inquisitors often start out as Puritans, when they are young and full of zeal and still fresh out of training and indoctrination, but tend to slide towards the Radical side of the spectrum as they experience the reality of the job and discover that they need all the tools at their disposal.

I learn Puritan, but every Puritan is just a Radical who hasn't yet been forced to compromise to preserve the Imperium. Just ask Einsehorn.

At least that's what my daemonhost, Malanimus, tells me.

Radical. [Psykana]
Ascension into a fully psychic race is mankind's inevitable fate. It is inevitable, and if our puritan peers who consider the gift of power a "taint" persist in pushing regressive containment policies to try in vain to suppress our ascension rather than understanding and preparing for it, we will find ourselves lacking in the infrastructure to control, train, and utilize the power of the warp and be drowned beneath the rising tide of the warp. As psychic powers and weapons are our only valid offense against the neverborn of the warp, it is in mastery of the warp that lies our salvation, and in shunning it, our damnation.

In the Inquisition, factions are generally categorized as puritan or radical. These are umbrella categories that define coalitions of smaller single-issue parties based on specific policies.
On the Puritan side, to name a few of the "parties", there are:
Amalathians: The factionalism of the Imperium should work together, and the status quo should be maintained
Monodominants: Basically hardline conservatives of the Imperium. Destroy everything non-imperial.
Thorians: The Emperor will re-manifest, or manifest his will again, through individuals.
On the Radical side, to name a few of the "parties", there are:
Istivaanists: Conflict breeds strength. When the organizations of the Imperium fight between each other, the victory will be strengthened by the conflict and more worthy to fight the Imperium's enemies.
Xanthists/Oblationists: Use the weapons of the enemy against the enemy. It is through the understanding of the foe that victory may be found.
Horusians: Maybe, the Emperor could be resurrected, this may require further studying the chaos that empowered Horus.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

Radical, of the Oblationist variety.
Wielding the weapons of the enemy against them is a sorrowful burden that must be borne by the damned elect who sacrifice their souls and purity for the greater good of mankind.

A Recongregator, which is considered to be on the Radical side, but I'm more of a believer in gradual reform of the Imperium rather than big, destabilizing revolutions. Besides, I suspect a lot of my fellow Recongregators are actually just Alpha Legion operatives in deep cover...
Of course, with Guilliman back, the Recongregator philosophy is probably becoming rather more mainstream. It's arguably more 'Puritan' than Thorianism anyway, since we don't generally muck about with Warp stuff.

My pov is that Gregor Eisenhorn went radical eventually, and he was likely the best inquisitor the imperium ever had.
Also, the imperium has been in a state of stagnation for 10,000 years, and now it's facing new threats that uncle gooly didn't even know about when he wrote the codex astartes.
They need to change, adapt, evolve and improve themselves or die.
The radical way may destroy the imperium and mankind. The puritan way definitely will.

When did the meme of the dark angels being traitors or heretics get going? I must have missed it. Last I heard a lot of them had fallen with Luthor when left behind on caliban, but at least had stayed loyal and attacked the traitors on caliban. Yes there ae the fallen wandering around and of course the most famous one, cypher. But when did it become a runing gag to accuse the main chapter of breaking bad?

As far as I can tell, its been around for as long as people have been using the web to discuss 40k. At first, it got under my skin because as you mentioned, it's not really accurate at all. It then started to get under my skin because of it's sheer repetitiveness. It wasn't until I realized that the entire purpose of the meme was to get under my skin, that I actually sort of started to appreciate it, and kind of took ownership of it myself. Like all memes, it's generally not as funny as the person posting it thinks, but there's a sense of communal camaraderie from it all the same.
