But since there are two abilities with the same name, could you not also agree that there are two pieces of wargear with the same name and different abilities? Stuff like the Gauss Pylon's Teleportation Matrix isn't listed in the wargear section, but there's a cost for Teleportation Matrix at the back of the book, so you have to pay. What determines whether an ability comes from a piece of wargear or not? Is it not just that there is a piece of wargear with the same name as the ability in question in the pts section?
FW is a completely different mess, there even is a counter-example to the pylon. Mekboss Buzzgob actually does have the
KFF rule (the one from the codex), but no means to take the
KFF and therefore simply doesn't gain anything from the ability.
What? What do you mean he doesn't have a means of taking a
KFF? If he has the
KFF ability then he is automatically equipped with the
KFF even if it isn't listed as having it, same thing with Craftworld Flyers (confirmed in
FAQ) and Gauss Pylons.
Sorry, but that is 100% wrong. The wording of the
KFF on buzzgob is exactly the same as on the Big Mek in Mega Armour, the Morkanaut and the Wazzbom Blastajet. The
KFF is an optional upgrade on all of them.
Buzzgob never had a
KFF and didn't magically get one in 8th either. He simply has a rule which das nothing because its requirements are not fulfilled - just like the combat shield rule on an Assault Marine Sergeant that didn't buy the combat shield wargear.
I also have not found any
FAQ related to craftworld fliers, please post it.
They've changed things or I remembered inocrrectly. The current Errata says "Page 108 – Hemlock Wraithfighter Change the unit description to read: ‘A Hemlock Wraithfighter is a single model equipped with two heavy D-scythes and spirit stones.’"
I thought it said something like "must I pay for spirit stones on a Hemlock Wraithfighter". I'm happy that's not the case, this new wording is much clearer. I still remember seeing it so I'll continue playing my Gauss Pylon as having the relevant wargear, despite it not being listed in its wargear, because that's how I remember it working for Hemlock Wraithfighters and
GW probably just forgot to change the wargear section for
FW Xenos, the books are going to get replaced soon anyways.
Considering there can be two abilities called
KFF, why can there not be a third for Buzz? He just gets the ability without the wargear, like the new
PA Mek. That's how I can justify to myself using
DS with my Gauss Pylon, I might technically not have to pay for the wargear, since it's just an ability with the same name as a piece of wargear, but all my armies will just be 10 pts under for each Gauss Pylon in my list.
