Been Around the Block

Hi all.
So I'm coming back to fantasy (aos) after 10 years away from the hobby and alot has changed.
As of yet, I want to begin an Cities of Sigmar Army and am fiddeling around with an army so I know what to buy but that has made me abit confused.
The new Cities book came with battalions and luckely, the Tempest Eye lets me use the units I love, except for the Greatswords.

Now for the questions. Can I use Greatswords if I take a battalion or can I only do that if I have 3 Battle Line units first?.

Thanks.

I don't know anything about the Cities battletome, but for all of the other battletomes, battalion warscrolls list required units to take at a higher points cost, in exchange for a special battalion ability and an extra command point at the beginning of the game. You must choose units to take that fit that battalion, but after that, if you have points to spare, you can continue taking anything else that fits your game type. You can even take another battalion, if you have the points.

As far as I understand, you can take them both as long as you have the points.

Battalions are also good for unit placement at the beginning of the game. Entire battalions are deployed at the same time as if they were one "unit". This means that you are more likely to get to choose who gets first turn at the beginning of the game

You mean the Aetherguard Windrunners battalion?

Yes, you can use Greatswords alongside that. They'll even count as battleline since the General on Griffon is Freeguild - although this isn't really important as to qualify for the Aetherguard battalion you'll first need 3-6 units of outriders/pistoliers wich are also battleline since your generals has the Tempest Eye keyword.
As they aren't listed as part of that battalion the greatswords won't benefit from the "Swift Like the Wind" ability though.
