Necrons as the Harbingers of the edition, already have their love. We could be getting some details about a possible campaign to follow PA as part of new edition hype; they did spend a fair bit of time talking about advancing the storyline, and a campaign would support that.
If, on the other hand, the plan is to use 9th ed codices to drive the release schedule, it will take longer for the announcement of a new faction to drop.
Crons will likely get a codex at release.
Discounting Necrons, I think I'd like to see next edition have Guard, Tyranids, and Tau. And if we can wish for new factions, Chaos Human Insurgents [I absolutely detest the GSC and would like to have a replacement for them that actually believes in the cause of overthrowing the Imperium and isn't mind controlled by sexual assault].
But we'll probably see more Marines, more Marine-based Chaos, and probably more CWE, because CWE is the Xenos faction that's always there.
Back to being on topic, it's neat though. Amidst what often feels like a deluge of Space Marine products, there were actually a huge number of non- SM stuff that came out and was quickly forgotten. There were a pretty decent amount of new Orks, and of new GSC. There was a whole lot of Chaos stuff and the new Death Guard line. And while the full reboot for Sisters was big news, there was also Custodes that I kind of forgot about despite having them. And short releases for Eldar and DE, that's a pretty hefty amount of non-marines interspersed within all the marines, and most of the marine stuff was just lieutenants over and over again anyway.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

Totally fair. Buuuut. . . I love how dark/gross/creepy they are as an alien invasion. They remind me a bit of some of Octavia Butler's sci-fi, which involves family-oriented creepines, genocide/evolution through genetic subjugation, and specis interbreeding among post-apocalypse settings. Of all the sci-fi I've read, her stuff really gets under the skin in a disturbing way.
GSC is also like Alien mixed with Body Snatchers and They Live, maybe.

Anyway, that's my take, back to the subject of releases this edition and what releases we're hoping to see next edition and happier things.
It's worthwhile to note that for some factions which have been a long time between releases, like Imperial Guard, the lines really are very complete. The IG roster is almost all in plastic except for characters [especially since they removed the units that weren't in 6th edition and this edition], so any new plastic kits would be something wholly new, Rough Riders, Ratlings, or the Ordnance Battery vehicles. And in terms of capability, the line is really complete; there's basically all your bases covered in the IG so there's no obvious calling for new units to be created [which this obviously isn't a serious impediment to Space Marines, the IG isn't Space Marines]. Tyranids too are pretty well covered in capability and with plastic models.
Eldar have a very complete lineup in capability, but a lot of it is in older resin/metal models, so they're obvious fodder for getting a unit or two, but they're also pretty capability complete, so it runs the issue of people already having adequate supplies of whatever it is and re-releases not having the same sale potential as new units so I think we're unlikely to see massive waves.
That kind of just leaves the smaller factions that have shorter lineups to get big releases as opposed to a character here and maybe if you're lucky a unit there. Notably, Admech are getting one, and Sisters, Knights, GSC got updates this edition, and Custodes and Death Guard were outright created. We could see a Wave 2 of Custodes and/or Sisters [Sisters wave 2 are not improbable, given their prominent position in media lately indicating that GW at least thinks they're pretty popular]. That leaves DE, Harlequins, and Grey Knights as the leftovers who would theoretically be most probable to find themselves with enough holes in capability to warrant the creation of large new release waves who also haven't seen a lot lately.
