So, this has come after a combination of things. To start with, I used to play Dawn of War Dark Crusade a lot and loved it. Like most avid players, I realized fairly quickly that the Tau were utterly broken against AI because of their Stealth suits (I'll always remember the XV15s line "You can't kill what you can't see"). I was somewhat disappointed to find that "stealth" in WH40k was effectively reduced to simply the Infiltration ability. When I recently got back into the hobby, I started surfing ebay for good deals and came across a strange new phenomenon to me. Recasting. It was something I had never even considered a possibility 7 years ago, but people are now trying to sell them on ebay. Legal implications aside (I know we're not supposed to support recasting here, so I will try to steer clear of that), one listing in particular caught my eye. It was for a recasting of the old Kasrkin stormtrooper models, an old favorite of mine from DoW. But something was off about it. The models were all solid one piece base included and made out of some clear green plastic not unlike the previous sculpt Necrons energy bits. This was my first introduction to an obvious recast model, so it stuck with me pretty good. Moving on to the next part, as many of you may know, GW released the redesign of their website and announced the next edition just a few days ago. Part of the release information was that they would be adding new rules to make stealthy play a more viable approach to the game. Now I have no idea how they will manage that, but I am very interested to find out what they have come up with. Lastly, just earlier today I saw a thread started that mentioned an iridescent paint and they were testing it on a Tau Stealth suit. All these things combined in my head to come up with a really cool idea. What if models with stealth capabilities had clear plastic versions of themselves to indicate being in "stealth mode" like how they were faded transparent in the old DoW game? Wouldn't that just be the coolest? I just want to say, I'm not trying to support recasting here and would be thrilled if GW had already thought of this as part of their new stealth mechanics, but baring that it would make for neat personal use models. And the rules that could go with them! Perhaps while in stealth mode, all enemies range and BS is reduced when shooting at them (because they need to be close enough to get an idea of where they are and even then they're firing at something they can't see) or maybe go the other way and give them large cover bonuses (for being invisible to the naked eye) or even some combination. Some special units could have an ability that allows them to break the stealth of nearby enemies (like the Ork Mega Nobs, Eldar Seers, and IG Psykers). Stealthed units do not count as capturing objectives. Attacking or using offensive abilities breaks stealth. When stealth is broken in any way, it can only be regained by all models in the squad breaking line of sight with all enemy models and cannot be done in the same turn as it was broken. A stealthed unit in full or half cover cannot be targeted by direct fire (because the enemy can't even tell they're there to fire at them), but can still be targeted and hit by weapons with the Blast attribute adding an extra d6 scatter (since they're guessing where the stealthed units are). I can think of so many cool things that could be done with this. Am I the only one that thinks like this and would love to see these kind of mechanics in the game to allow more diverse playstyles?

Damn that is one big lump of text. Let me introduce you to a concept called paragraphs!

Gw have done transparent models. Fw released a set of ring bearers for middle earth cast in clear resin.
Game wise, this is probably not the correct sub forum for that discussion.

Hmm yes, you're probably right, sorry. I apologize for the wall of text as well, I kinda rambled on without realizing it. I didn't know about the clear middle earth models, so that's cool.
