So assuming (safe I think) that more primaris models will come out and old marines will stay in the codexes but receive no new models hence they move closure to obscurity.

Therefore the the codex characters will need to with become primaris or die so they can be replaced with primaris characters.

So the question is which of the characters from your armies codex do you think will cross the rubicon and which will heroically die? For DA I think belial will die to make way for a deathwing primaris But sammael will cross the rubicon to keep his hover bike on the table. Maybe asmodai will survive to keep the link to the interrogator chaplains and the history of hunting the fallen. The rest will be replaced.

I’m not sure if this will happen in the next round of codexes but it seems inevitable

Stuck in the snow.

Lysander.

Dude is oooold and his schtick of "having a cool thunder hammer and storm shield" has been mostly diminished by so many other Space Marines with as cool or cooler hammers and shields.

Plus we just got Primaris For Garadon who does have a new unique set of wargear and is much younger lore-wise.

I would say that anything in metal/resin is at risk. I get the feeling GW wants to move away from resin as it is prone to defects(at least the resin), is easily pirated by unscrupulous parties, and is probably not as automated as casting plastic is, meaning it costs more to make them.

I agree and fear fear Belial will meet his doom soon. Hell, I think Azrael might die/disappear if and when they decide to make the Lion into plastic. Asmodai I can see becoming a cool Primaris Chaplain, especially since Int.-Chaplains are a unique thing that GW probably wants to keep. The DA psyker Ezekiel is, however, probably on some chopping block or another.

Non-ultramarine characters who haven't been primaris'd are all doomed. First to die will be Helbrecht. Grimaldus will be mortally wounded, saved by some random plot armor psyker and put in a redemptor. Then templars will be forced to take psykers and follow the codex astartes.

Hard to imagine any SM characters losing their models anytime soon

I don't think they'd do that to Grimaldus, I figure he'd get primaris'd. But a dreadnought character similar to the red scorpions HQ would be awesome

Personally, I think it would be smart for GW to move away from named characters where possible. They're models that folks buy one of, and only if they're running that particular faction & subdivision. I'm not sure if the gravy prices really help them meet expected sales.

I suspect we'll see a large number of named characters will drop to Legends and more generic figures will take their place - you can still name them and customize them with bits, but something like Grizzled Veteran Lieutenant will have more pick-ups than, say Sicarius. And they can still charge $35 for the model.

It never ends well

Really, with the claim that the Rubicon thing is only what, 65% successful, they can easily kill a few off having them undergo the process and die. Dante is a likely one, as he's freaking old, but others could follow.

They probably won't kill off many, if any SM characters though - they like them too much.

I can't imagine they would remove or Primarize Dante. Really expect him to just get a slightly upscaled mini, and to be one of the last "hold outs" of original Marines.

Each one that has a resin model or a model in an oop set.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

In short, all of them? They're all going to either A) disappear over the next 5-10 years, or B) be replaced by a Primaris version or a re-storied version, etc.

I don't see why Helbrecht would die soon, as he just recently got a spotlight in PA.

With Crusade coming, generic ARE the new named. After you play with a model for two or three years, if it lives, it will be powerful enough to be Chapter Master, but it had to survive long enough for that to happen. And every time it leveled, you got to make a choice as a player about how it would grow, so that every chapter master is a unique combination of abilities. We already know that being interred in a Dreadnaught is a Crusade event. Dollars to donuts, I bet crossing the Rubicon is Crusade event too; there may even be more paths to this, because you don't HAVE to be mortally wounded to cross the Rubicon like you do to become a dread.

Now of course, not everyone will choose to play Crusade style, so some ready made named will have to stick around.

Some named may go to Legends, and others will cross and get new sculpts; others will stick around as is for a very, very long time. Honestly, the smart money for GW is on letting the market decide. They can't know how many of us will prefer the Crusade DIY living campaign hero vs. the ready made, classic character in a box. So let each coexist for a year, and whichever method works best becomes the priority, while the lesser option as allowed to slowly wither away to Legends, which will allow you to freeze them in time and play them forever...

Or until you're finally ready to let them go.

DE players can tell you that it isn't easy losing characters.

I don't see GW axing a character model unless it outright gets a new model (Shrike). Vulkan is the only one I can see getting removed but only if OG Vulkan returns to avoid confusion. They have the molds I don't see much point unless people aren't buying them

If the primaris are led by old marines then GW will have to spend forever explaining to new players what came before primaris
