I'm getting back into the hobby after like 10 years and after seeing necrons getting some new toys soon I though I'd lean towards them. Looking over the characters and rules a bit I quite like the look of kutlakh world killer combined with Anrakyr the Traveller to get some strong lychguard.

But I dont know what to add to the rest of the army or what I could use to support them. Not to fusesed about building an overly competitive list and aiming for around 2000pts. Any help would be appreciated

With a new edition around the corner its hard to give concrete advice. It seems that Necrons are getting a new codex with new units combine that with 9th edition rule changes it is hard to make recommendations. Currently, the only thing I consider mandatory in a Necron army is one unit of 6 Destroyers so you can take advantage of the extermination protocol stratagem.

9th edition is a curveball at the moment we just have to wait and see and this thread will be re-open that is for sure.

So, it's looking like it's a good time to be a Necron fan. Necrons are going to be one of the Face armies of 9th, and are getting a massive update. Head over to https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/788624.page and check out some of the pictures in the OP to see what I mean. Kutlakh is part of the Forgeworld rules which we know are getting an update soon.

If you want to get started now here are some good buys that are unlikely to change: Plastic Overlord with Warsctyhe, Cryptek with Canoptek Cloak and and a few boxes of Immortals. We are getting new Warrior kits, so if you like Warriors, picking up a Ghost Ark or two is likely not a bad choice. Canoptek Wraiths have been really good throughout most of the edition.

I would hold of on Destroyers, Warriors and the Monolith, as well as anything in Finecast for the moment.

I saw all the new models the other day witch made me want necrons coming back to the hobby, but I guess I'll hold fire on buying most things like you suggested until the new rules and models are released. Thanks for the response.

If you do get the itch and want to get a head start on your collection, the models I suggested would be a good start, and you get some extra bits to play with. The Deathmark heads that come in the Immortal box are really popular.

I agree with this but Aizen I have a question do you think we are getting a new codex also or something similar to a Psychic Awakening?

I agree with this but Aizen I have a question do you think we are getting a new codex also or something similar to a Psychic Awakening?

We are getting both. We will have PA: Pariah, and then the new Necron dex sometime after the initial release of 9th. Hopefully not TOO long afterwards.
