(I fear I have missed a nuance in all the FAQ's etc)
Talking battle-forged and detachment rules here. Faction keyword. The BRB building section says all models in a detachment must share 1 faction keyword (excluding the ones listed in the FAQ such as imperium etc).
I notice in the CSM book, Emperors Children have a faction keyword Slaanesh among others.
Daemonette's also have the same faction keyword (slaanesh)
and Obliteraters have faction keyword <Mark of Chaos> which changes to Slaanesh if I so choose.
Okay, all the same faction keyword, and can be in the same detachment.
Now, what if I choose a unit from Codex Daemons with the Slaanesh faction Keyword (such as a Herald of Slaanesh) Or say a Daemon Prince with the mark of Slaanesh (there are reasons)?

Same faction keyword and therefore they can be in the same detachment?

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

It's complicated because the FAQs are a mess.

I will keep it short: It may/may not be possible to make a SLAANESH detachment like that depending on how you parse the FAQs, but even if it is, you should never do it. You're losing out on detachment traits and it is never ever worth it. In 8th, you can just take individual detachments. In 9th, this is going to cost you a significant CP penalty, so you're better off running a pure Emperors Children and summon in the Slaanesh Daemons. Or just take the hit and use both a battalion and a patrol detachment and take the 2CP loss.

Yep, it’s possible (same keyword) but not advantageous as described above.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Thanks BCB and JohnnyHell. I do completely see the disadvantages of mixing. (Swing as if charging has been very good my last few games...)
