regarding "blending in": I recently did these:
They look nice in my vitrine in fit the theme of the army, but they will definitly stand out on most boards.

I can't stand scenic bases and everything that makes the model taller than is supposed to be when it has its feet on the ground.
So just painted sand for me, maybe with some grass but I'd rather keep the base as simple as possible. Basically I like bases like the one you see on GW catalogue for regular infantry models, like ork boyz, nobz, gretchins etc... some sand and just one colour, my preference is brown because it matches better than green with ork and SW models.

I've taken to marking the bases of my gurdsmen with ranks, but I think that's the OCD coming out.

Ranks depending on if it's a normal guardsmen/sergeant/commander?
An interesting idea anyway

I tend to go for either browns, greys, or a mix of both, as they tend to blend into most tables without difficulty. I'm a big lover of grass tufts as well as a quick and easy way of adding some colour/height to the base.

Colored sand! and mod-poge
I work the glue texture around the legs with a sculpting tool, I am not a fan of raised models ether. Automatically Appended Next Post: Pyroalchi wrote:regarding "blending in": I recently did these:
