Is anyone else as excited as I am!?
It means I can play at home, the smaller board size is way more manageable. The smaller armies makes it easier for folks to collect.
I'd really like to hear folks thoughts on Incursion Tournaments.

If the game really plays faster, a 4-round, one day Incursion Tournament could be a pretty neat thing.

I would be open to the idea. I don't think it will be as popular as past ITC polls indicated the majority of players wanted to play with larger point values.
Incursion does have some built in restrictions/recommendations, such as a rule of two and smaller board size. These additional factors may change some opinions, so we shall see.
If ITC released a separate ITC track for Incursion, I think there would be a player base for it.

None of the leaks have the Incursion missions, but the rules show that there's a whole set of missions just for them on a 44x30 board.
Honestly a huge part of why I like Incursion and Combat Patrol games is the smaller board. It means I can set up and play games at homie pretty easy, the armies aren't huge, so I can have a few factions.
It would whole heartedly work at making Incursion tournaments a thing if I could.

The smaller size doesn't really work with 40k movement and range values. I'm sure it could be a fun diversion but I think it's a bit of a pipe dream to think it'll be a good competitive format.

We did 1000pt tournaments throughout all of 8th edition, as 2000pts games need far too long to resolve and are much more interesting in narrative missions. 8th already had rules for smaller games in organized play, 4x4 board and "rule of 2" for example.

And not very fun for some armies. 1000pts as knights, custodes or GK does not scale well to small games.

Many point out that you could always do this, but having missions designed for different sizes is new.
As for Incursion Missions, as I understand, the BRB will have a bunch of Incursions for both Crusade and Matched, but the 2020 CA which includes the Grand Tournament Mission Pack only has Strike Force.

My local GW store already ran 1K tournaments during 9th to fit more players in.
I expect that they'll continue to do so along with smaller stores, but the big ITC GTs will stick with 2K. The really big tournaments (Nova, LVO, Adepticon, etc.) will probably do both.

Yeah, players could always have play tested smaller tables to find the ideal size, tried to figure out appropriate numbers of objectives, and tinkered with static command points limited to just that size. Or did you mean that we could always run 1000 point games on a mostly empty 6x4 with 6 objectives that half go untaken and a distinct CP advantage for GEQ armies?
GW made it easy and easy is what lets events happen. 4x3 (plus setup space) means you can get ~1.5-1.75x as many players on existing tables (assuming you have the tables in a series of continuous lines) and you can probably get a 4 round tournament done inside of a day for a game store that's never run an event like that before.
I'm going to be VERY interested to see how the preference for points limits changes, if at all, when people start using the recommended terrain amounts. Having all the bells and alpha-strike whistles isn't going to do as much turn one. A walking blob of overlapping buff banners will be awkward to keep intact at best when terrain is 1/sq. ft. Personally, I'm hoping that the smaller sizes become more popular.

Well that's great news! Now I will get it for sure. OP was right, all anyone has ever posted about are the 9 SF missions- so much so I was positive that's all there was. I remember even posting to one of those threads that I was disappointed because missions for different sizes was a big part of the draw for me, and even then, no one corrected me. This is great! Of course, I'd like to have seen a couple of Combat Patrols and Onslaughts too, but SF + Incursion is better than pure SF.

I respectfully disagree, the changes to CP no longer hinder custodes or GK like they used to, only needing a patrol allows them to take what they want with little tax.

I mean exactly what I said.
Pick a previous edition. There's nothing stopping a group/store/organizer from setting whatever limitations they please, for whatever reasons. Could be play-tested & tinkered with, could just be arbitrary.
And no, GW "making it easy" is not what allows events to happen.

But now Incursion tournaments are an official, backed by GW, thing.
Yes, groups can always tinker.
However, this means that 1: there's no need to do that now. 2: the board change from 4'x4' suggestion to 44"x30" minimum (meaning you can still use 4x4 if you want) means that people, can play practice games at home easier, stors will have more space for event space at this scale.
The fact that's it's listed in the GW Tournament pack, is a sign that competitively minded players don't have to rush at get 2,000 for a Strike Force.
The official missions and addition of it to competitive play stuff is huge for many people who have never heard of ITC or anything of that sort.

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

Not to mention, if you have a smaller game store or one that is just now venturing into the tabletop wargaming market, this also could ease the burden on terrain and table space for them, but still, be able to hold events if they chose too. It feels like a decent hashmark in the "W" column.

GW always had tournament packs for 1000 point tournaments on 4" by 4" tables and ran them regularly.
I always found it somewhat ironic, that the "competitive scene" kinda dismisses WHW tournament, yet for a more e-sport-esque, Twitch-&-co. focused, sponsor-supported, pro-circuit of competitive 40K, 1000 points on smaller tables would be the vastly superiour format:
- Much shorter games that are easier to watch for spectators,
- Much more close-up view of the action even in overhead,
- Many more tournament rounds in a single day / two-day weekend to get true undefeated even with many attendants,
- Etc..
Either way. Despite GW's GT Pack now being promoted from a Warhammer World PDF thing as it was in previous years to an "official publication" that will perhaps see more use outside of Warhammer World, it still will be the document for people attending actual GW tournaments and thus will need to cover these style of events (hence why a down-graded painting requirement is also still in it).
It kinda doesn't make sense for GW to publish a GT pack that they would then need to houserule for their traditional 40K Heats/ GT.
