Subject: White scars or raven guard? (need help deciding)

Hello all,
I was planning on starting an UM force but I had a change of heart and I want to do something a bit more interesting, I really can't decide between WS and the RG successor raptors. I love the halo masterchief/ spec ops look and vibe of the raptors, but I also really like the looks and in particular the lore of the WS (I also think WS are a bit more unique). My biggest concern is that the RG play style would be too similar to my existing armies (I currently have 2k imperial fists, space wolves and ~750 point tau army which I want to build out further at some point). I am also concerned that the units I allocated for UM would work much better with Raptors than WS, though I would be fine folding them into my IF or SW if I took the WS route, but it would mean i'd need to save up and get WS models.
Units I have:
Start collecting vanguard space marines
Predator W/ lascannons
x2 repulsor
Impulsor (planning on adding to SW, but haven't painted yet)
Stormhawk/stormtalon
6 agressors (3 BS gauntlets, 3 Flame gauntlets)
3 dev/assault centurions (was planning on working these into IF but I hear they are also very good in RG)
5 intercessors
5 hellblasters
Also pre ordered 2 Space marine halves of indomitus.
Things I really like about each chapter:
Raptors: Looks (like them a bit more than WS), my current models work well with them, strong.
WS: Lore, unique looks and game play.
If I were to go with WS, what units should I use, what units should I add to my other armies, what units should I buy? (not looking to build any sort of competitive or super optimized list but I don't want to use bad units).
Any help is greatly appreciated!

In all seriousness if you like the colors make a custom chapter and just use whatever colors you want, make a slight change and use it as counts as WS.
My Spartans are based on an OD green color and I run them as Blood Angels.

I actually hadn’t considered that, if I painted them up as raptors, which are kind of obscure, (maybe omitting the transfers) do you think people would mind if I played them as WS or other chapters for that matter?

I don’t think they would mind at all, most players aren’t all that familiar with the Raptors anyways. I just wouldn’t do the chapter transfers. When people see mine they think Dark Angels or Salamanders usually have yet to have someone ask if they are Raptors.

There is always the metamarines, unknown founding, unknown primarch, amusingly on the nose name, who seem to be from whichever chapter has the best rules at the moment.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon. |

Raptors are far from obscure at this point in time. You can blame tourney goons for that with Lias Issadon.
Truthfully, if you're running all or mostly Primaris? Just make up your own Chapter.

Your paintjob doesn't affect what you choose as your parent legion or <CHAPTER> selection. Your dudes can be painted as the most Lore Accurate White Scars imaginable and you can still choose to replace <CHAPTER> with RAPTORS and use Raven Guard rules if you do wish. Or you can have a custom colour scheme and select ULTRAMARINES if you really wan to run Calgar or Guilliman. That being said, that can make people upset, so your best bet is to make a custom chapter colour scheme, so you can easily choose whichever rules you want. Plus you can fit "your dudes" fluff to be whatever you want.
