Imagine you are a model, ground level, 2W T4, 32mm base, armed with some kind of bolt rifle. Directly in front of you is a building with a massive archway that has the OBSCURING trait.

* = wall
_ and | = edge of terrain
ox = our potential victim, a 1W t3 INFANTRY model.

Can you see the victim? The line you draw does not pass over any part of the terrain (it passes under the archway) nor does it pass through (through, SEEMINGLY, and this could be where I'm wrong, defined as literally through a solid piece of the model representing the terrain)

You have to assign a footprint to all terrain features. The Footprint is what determines whether the line passes over or though it.

Basically it's how footprint is decided.

Where the * is solid and - is the archway.
If you and opponent decide the archaway (----) is part of the footprint then it's obscured.
If you and your opponent decide only the solid section (*****) is part of the footprint then it is not obscured.

Terrains are only what you define them to be. It doesn't matter whether or not it makes sense.

IMO, defining the whole structure as 'OBSCURING' is a bad pre-game decision.

Why not treat the said terrain as if it was three pieces of terrain that just happens to be connected? Then, the walled section can be assigned 'OBSCURING' and the archway something else?

Oh right, I was forgetting about the Obstacle/Area Terrain delineation. Thanks everybody!
