" ... your army cannot include any Specialist Detachments."

Would those be the various Vigilus, Psy-Awakening, ForgeWorld ... pretty much anything *not* from a codex? Did I miss any 'Specialist Detachment' sources?

Daemonkin is good, yes?

It will be anything that is called a Specialist Detachment and/or meets the definition of a Specialist Detachment (from page 168 of Vigilus Defiant):

A Specialist Detachment Stratagem is a unique type of Stratagem used when choosing your army. This Stratagem will assign a <SPECIALIST DETACHMENT> keyword to certain units in that Detachment and will unlock Warlord Traits, Relics, Stratagems and psychic powers that those units can take.

Okay, so Vigilus Albaze & Defy fer sure.

As I'm looking at my Faith and Fury, say page 66, Night Lords, and it's 'Night Lords' that is the term ... it doesn't say "special detachment" and I'm not sure if that fits ... Okay, "A Night Lords Detachment is still treated as a Chaos Space Marine Detachment for the purposes of Strategems" and then on to warlord traits & artifacts.

So, the Psy-Awaken entry here *is* permissible for GT 2020? Yes?

Correct, that is not a specialist detachment, so is fine to use.
So far as I'm aware the only sources of specialist detachments that have been released are the ones in the Vigilus Defiant and Vigilus Ablaze books. I can't think of any others (if there have been others, I'm interested to know ).

It's only detachments unlocked via paying a CP, as noted in the quote someone provided above.

Would you mind providing an example? Cuz ... I don't remember " ... detachments unlocked via paying a CP" in 8e.

The imperial gaurd has several available, from the vigilis defiant book in 8th. (Drop was my favorite, but the wrath was VERY common as it allowed doubleshooting of a single basilisk)
Wrath of the Emperor artillery column,
Emperor's Fist Tank Company,
Emperor's Blade Assault Column,
Drop Detachment (stormtrooper scions only).
Those were from vigilis, specifically, each cost a cp to form, each was a specific designation of the affected detachment but only for specific units laid out in its description, was there a benefit. Each also had the opportunity for a field commander (a second cp) with a detachment specific warlord trait and a relic that was also detachment specific.

There is also some in a variety of marine units.

Hi, Duke.

I get it now. I reread through Vigilus A&D which I did not use, cuz I played elves throughout 8e. And I got off the Chaos SM wagon only a couple months into 8e, before Vigs were released. I see the 'strat' sections where CP is paid and then the Specialist bit kicks in.

Thank you all, gentlemen.
