Can an aircraft that can use hover mode be deployed at the start of the battle in hover mode?

The "Hover Jet" or whatever hover rule the flyer has will tell you when you can activate Hover.

It all depends on the wording. What Aircraft are you talking about specifically? If you mean the Valkyrie family, then no, you cannot, as Hover Jet is used "Before this model moves in the movement phase..."

I am curious as to why you'd want to, all you'd do in my view is make it easier to hit if you're going second. If you're going first you just hover in the movement phase.

Storm Talon......to deploy him behind obscuring terrain. So, trying to limit alpha strike opportunities.

Ah, forgot about that. Sadly it deploys in full fledged flying mode, you can't have it in hover mode before your first movement phase.

Why does hover mode matter? The Storm Talon has the AIRCRAFT keyword. It does not lose this keyword just because it is in hover mode.

Yeah they don't lose it in hover mode. Good catch. (And for those wondering since I was a little confused, the list of units that have the AIRCRAFT keyword are on page 360 of the BRB).

None of the FW flyers are on that list.

They get the Keyword in the FW IA FAQ.

In a surprising turn of events, the FW Indexes actually have a full list of additions to the Blast and Aircraft lists in their respective FAQs.
