So, with this new edition I've been looking into what I could do with my infantry-based guard, and honestly, I think that it mostly comes down to points denial and perhaps knocking out some major threats (I absolutely hate aggressors for a very good reason).

So, the idea would be to go for something like this:

Brigade+2 Battalions
2 company commanders
1 company commander warlord with Master of Command and Laurels of Command
2 Primaris Psykers (1 Nightshroud, the other Psychic Barrier)
2 Lords Commissar
3 Platoon Commanders
6 Infantry Squads with Lascannons
12 Infantry Squads with Plasma Guns
6 Infantry Squads with Melta Guns
3 Heavy Weapon Squads with Mortars
3 Scout Sentinels with Multi-Lasers

For a total of 240 regular guardsmen backed up by some mortars (mostly to clear out light backfield objective holders). I used to not really use other heavy weapons, but I've come to the conclusion that sometimes, it's useful to have a few lascannons around to help degrade some particularly annoying units, like the aggressors I hate so very much. The sentinels are mostly there to round out the brigade and to help take some objectives a bit earlier. They're the only real target for antitank weapons, so I don't expect them to survive the first round of shooting.

With this list, I know that I'll always give up quite a few secondary points, Thin Their Ranks is a given for instance, but should be able to score full primaries and to score things like Raise the Banners. Hopefully, it will be enough to put enough bodies on objectives that my opponent can't take them off me, denying them points.

What does Dakka think?

They changed how CP work in 9th, it now COSTS you CP to get extra Battalions/etc. With this list, you would be left with 6 CP at the start of the game (assuming you are not spending any CP on extra Relics/etc).

I would very much recommend trying to get this into a single Brigade, just for the CP.

You will be giving up A LOT of secondaries with this type of list. The new secondaries were created in part to nerf lists like this. It would be fun to see an opponents face when you start setting this up on a table! Hope you dont have a time-limit XD

Yes, but unfortunately, it seems that brigades max out at only twelve troops choices, and that really isn't enough for a halfway decent infantry force. I also don't particularly care about CP because the guard doesn't have that many great things to spend them on. So this usually is enough for me. In 8th I often didn't know what to do with them so I ended up with a bunch left at the end.

With this list, I'll probably let most opponents max out thin their ranks. But almost any guard list does that. Aside from that, I think that they have a decent shot at assassinate, which, again, is a fairly typical one to give up.

Playing speed actually isn't much of an issue. They're on movement trays and I have standardised lots of dice for the typical rolls. Quite frequently, opponents take longer on their turns. Although that was 8th, so there might be some differences there.
