Yeah, the moulds for metal or resin models both wear out, sometimes lucky to get a hundred casts out of a mould if the model is tricky. On the plus side, those moulds are much cheaper to replace, and that's factored into the model cost.

I think the army that needs new troops kits most is the guard.
The boyz kit is a wee bit dated, but still serviceable. Cadians and Catachans look uninspired compared to pretty much any other line and all the other Regiments are... lets call it of historic value.

The same "careful what you wish for" moment happens, enjoy £32.50 for 10 guardsmen and half the heavy/special weapons or if lucky 20 near monopose for £37.50.

The difference between the current infantry boxes and the recently released single characters is huge though, much larger than between ork boyz and buggy crew.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Until not too long ago, there were sisters-players out there who'd purge a heretic or three for 20 new monopose models.
Besides, even monopose can be converted, it just takes a bit more effort. And while that effort is certainly necessary for horde-based armies like orks or guard, the average let's say sisters-player is probably well-served with 20 monopose models. Add in some simple mods like headswaps and weapon options brings that up to say 30-35 unique models in the army, which is probably all they'll ever actually need.

But when you need 100 infantry for guard, that doesn't stretch as far. Also the same models you refer to for sisters are £35 for 10, build half the model range and 20 would barely give you min troops, 30-35 is maybe enough for 2k, but then you're at £140 of monopose models you've had to convert.

Pox walkers are 10+6 mono-pose models and pretty much no one can tell. Horde units are just big blobs of infantry models where single models don't matter that much. It's more apparent for units like plague marines or terminators, when two out of five are striking the same heroic pose or when the six marines holding a blight launcher seem to be clones of each other.

Mekboy on Kustom Deth Kopta

As an ork player i like most of the kits. we need a plastic deffkopta kit and redone characters but the line it pretty good otherwise model wise. would love a GW painboy on a bike, warboss on a bike, nob banner on a bike to match the buggies though. and for the love of all things holy why did they remove the mega armored warboss that is just iconic ork. why would the biggest toughhest ork not be like... hook me up with a big metal body like ghaz.
