Would giggle with glee if the Zoats were brought back as a new faction, but also allied to a more sinister faction to get revenge on the tyranids - such as the necrons.

That would be like the super-villian team up of the 40K universe!

Sigh...at the very least, there is always the Archivist.

I've elsewhere said that Orks are a problem with their klans in that it doesn't nesscarily give GW much flexability to add new ones and give people room to customize things to "their guys" I think I'd go with Waaghs for chapter tactics.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Wrong. There were army lists for Kult of Speed and Feral Orks in 3rd. They only need to expand on the Freebootaz faction and it is done.

Bringing back Feral Orks opens up the possibility of Boarboyz coming back, as well as Cyboarnetiks, which would be cool.

Aside from a plastic Squiggoth, which would be pretty darned cool, I wonder if there are any concepts which could be swiped from the E:A Swordwind book to bring to 40k...

This is, emphatically, why I will continue suggesting nuking Guard and starting over again. It's a legacy army that needs to be rebooted with a new focal point.

Confirmation of why no-one should listen to Kanluwen when it comes to the IG - he doesn't want the IG, he want's Kan's New Model Army...

Kroot and other Auxillaries are one thing where they could make an actual faction (though I'd prefer to keep in codex too, rather than have an Aeldari-style mess).
But why in the world would I want to split my Tau army into Battlesuit and Alien-Imperial-Guard half-armies?
They've got a cohesive aesthetic and fluff that doesn't support that kind of split at all. There's no advantage to forcing Tau into multiple detachments tied with an Imperium-style faction keyword.
It's all just inconvenience, separate stratagems, CP cost for detachments, HQs and special abilities that only work on one detachment..
I'm all for more Xenos units but Codex Splits like you suggest are a flat out Bad Idea, sorry. Simply writing better Codices that support more diverse armies and more than the bare-minimum of model range support would suffice.

LOLWUT? The background quite literally supports it, as that is where the whole idea comes from. Tau are a republic of numerous alien races, yet the surface of this is barely scratched on the tabletop. There is nothing stopping GW from making a Chaos Daemons-esq. codex (remember, they split the Daemons away from the CSM so they wouldn't play second fiddle to the CSM and could be properly focussed on, which also gave us the dire 4th ed CSM book, but I digress...) of auxiliary races for the Tau. There was a whole Kroot codex back in the day in Chapter Approved. You've got more than enough units just there to translate into 9th ed for the skeleton of the book. Throw in a load more races and you're set.

Why would you want more xenos factions when there are more colors of marines and marine models to produce?

I know right it'd slow down the release of xenos factions even more and there'd be even more pointless whinkng like this.
