Hi guys,
So I'm currently finishing painting my Space Hulk boxset and I have reached the moment I have to to paint the dead terminator.
I don't want him to look as brand new as the rest of the terminators.
I was thinking about battle damages but.. I want the whole model to look like it hasn't moved in decades.
How would you achieve that ?
Thanks !

Spoiler:

Wip model, I don't want it to look like the finished shinning terminator next to it.

You will need some FW powder or equivalent; small brush sponge(those use for printmaking), GW Charadon Granite(OOP, new similar is Skavenblight Dinge). Look at images of old cars left to the elements, try to imitate the how the red would decay on the armor.

decay the armor, then add powder work over as dust.

Try extra dark wash in the recesses and shift your red two steps less saturated. Matte finish and plenty of dust/rust should get you there.
Good luck and looking great so far!

Light oil wash to serve as dust and sand.
Something like this perhaps?

So my main advice, would be to have started with a more faded basecoat. However, all is not lost. You can rectify this somewhat with a heavy drybrush of something like a pinky grey colour, all over the armour. Once you've got your faded base, then you can start working with washes, oils, weathering effects etc

Im looking for a good reason to Play with the spider serum.

They also do paint set for both rust and dirt and just to pigments if you want to make a more dirty look

Ok so I try to follow your ideas. I washed it heavily and then drybrushed it with screamer pink, which is pinkish and dull compared to the bright red I used, and I bought and used skavenlight dinge with foam. Then I highlighted the sponge stains with the initial red (Mephiston Red).
I used nihilak oxide on the metal parts (even if I don't think gold oxides in real life lol) and I bought and put some typhus corrosion on some strategical points.
I must say... It looks super good !
I'm really not used to paint old / wasted / used marines and I'm glad I did it, thanks guys !

I would look into a layer of weathering powders, specifically a grey one like 'concrete dust', to simulate, well, dust. But it does look nice & old. That spider web stuff looks like both a laugh & a pain to use! need to get some.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

At one point I will, but right now I cannot so I call him finished for now.
