Ok, this is a mini that I made as a joke for a friend of mine. He GMs a lot of games, and has always been a bit fascinated by the fact that the Half Dragon template can be added to almost any kind of creature. Including ones that reproduce by dividing.

Truly, the biology of dragons is a wonder.

Anyway, he got to completely wreck the party with this Half Black Dragon Gelatinous Cube.

I made it by combining some parts from an invisible dragon and gelatinous cube minis (both from Reaper’s Bones line). I used water effect for gap filling and a bit of sculpting, and added a little color with some thinned down paints. I wanted to give the impression that it picks up debris from the floor as it moves along.

Except for the eyes, which are totally opaque so that they can show up. Seriously, I think they’re the only part that really shows up at all in the pictures, but you get the idea.





In an unrelated project for the same friend, I found a really strange bit that I think is supposed to be the head of a dragon, but seriously looks like a half dragon spider. So that got painted too.

Man, dragons really make some poor choices.

That is, frankly, incredible. I'm not sure whether I'm more impressed by your friend's imagination, or your inspired work with that gradient of opaqueness.

I didn't get any pictures that show it, but the mini is actually hollow. I created the base for it and it slides on solidly, but I didn't glue it on, just in case someone needs to put an adventurer inside, you know?

On the base, there's a pile of bones in the center at the bottom.

That's very cool! It would be hilarious to have it "swallow" an adventurer!

Yeah- that's definitely part of the design for the Reaper Gelatinous Cube I was working from, so I'm not really taking credit for that- except that I kept that beautiful feature.

I think the WizKids one does the same thing (I haven't worked with it).

Great stuff, great imagination, great fun!

By the way, I think this story ends with a fairly hilarious near TPK.

As I recall, the party split up right before encountering it, and one character fled leaving the others to feed themselves one by one to the Dracatious Cube.

Lol, I'm guessing the lone survivor wasn't very popular after that...

Naw- I think she had a whole new party of characters.
