Ok, i have not been involved with 40K for Many years:
Within the latest rules how big and powerful can you make an Ork Battle Fortress? At what point does it become a Gargant (afterall Mega gargants run on tracks rather than walk)?

Orks have no customisable vehicles any more.

W_T_Flip?

Not even Apocalypse? So why would you want to model them anymore?

No Model, No Rules is the golden rule at GW now. You can still scratch build models, you just have to pick a set datasheet to represent them.

So are there any Gargant stats out there?
I have an urge to build something huge and ridiculous, i am trying to convince myself it would be better to build an Epic scale vehicle about the size of a 40K Stompa but the urge is to go supersize.

Gargants and Stompas have datasheets, but they are overpriced and too easy to kill.

I wonder if GW have plans to change that with a launch of new super expensive models with "Updated" rules.

Forgeworld is supposed to be putting out new point costs and rules for their 40k models, there might be some of that incorporated over there (seeing as they already have a lot of the larger Ork vehicles)

I don't know how anyone ever gets to build an army and learn how to use it when there seems to be a rules change or a whole new edition every 5 minutes.

Does it explicitly say this somewhere? I had a look through the first section of the rules and it says your army has to be made up of Citadel minatures. I remember the 8th Edition BRB said that you had to use the correct model to represent a datasheet but I could not find similar wording

There is some text in there - only a couple of bits in the actual rules themselves, but they are there:
"You will then need to muster an army of Citadel miniatures, create a battlefield and prepare for war."
"Each player in a game of Warhammer 40,000 commands an army of Citadel miniatures, hereafter referred to as 'models'."

If you wanted to be absolutely BRUTALLY RAW about it, you could say that any miniatures that aren't Citadel aren't recognised as models, and therefore can't do anything like set up, move, shoot, charge, etc etc.

However, in the real world there are plenty of people out there who would be happy to play against a scratch-built Ork creation, as long as it's not too egregious in its size compared to the datasheet it's supposed to represent.
Rules-wise this is technically even supported in Open Play, as long as you agree with your opponent first.

The rules still require you to use Citadel Miniatures but I think it's now a little looser as to representing datasheets with models.

Yeah, and this is a shame.

When I started in 3rd edition the ork codex had pages about how to scratch build and convert stuff. Half units didn't have official models then, but it's very sad that GW is pushing for playing with what only comes in the box.

There are rules for building your own "regular sized" vehicles, but they cannot be used in matched play games, so meh.

The kustom stompa datasheet also allows for a lot of customization, but it remains to be seen how much of that remains after the next book.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

OK, thank you. I guess this is the stance unless we get further clarication.
