A bit of a bad fraced question. But can somebody brush me up on primaris? I stoped playing in 6th edition, and startedin 8th. In my little corner of the world I only played vs SM one time, and that was the Guliman show, so not a good baseline.
I am very confused about the primaris. This is what I know about them.
- None of them can take a regular transport.
- The new Eradicator Primarus unit is very undercosted, everybody wants to buy them and they will probably get a price increase in the future.
- Some of them come with several different guns. (Bolter weapons and plasma.)
- They can take the transhuman stratagem.
- Their weapons are usualy AP1 hier then their non primaries option.
- They have no real option for their sargants?
Also, is the Heavy Intercessor not out yet?
Could somebody give me a general option? I would play them within the lens of SW.

Intercessors have 3 different Bolt rifle options, Hellblasters have 3 Plasma options. Eliminators can be Bolt or Las, Aggressors Bolt or Flamer & Inceptors Bolt or Plasma. Everyone in the squad has the same weapon - no Special or Heavy options (but that's changing with the Eradicators & Heavy Intercessors).

A lot of the options are/were Chapter-locked.

Not yet - I'd expect them alongside the Supplements later in the year.

I'd wait for the SW Supplement to come out, as Codex + Index is a bit of a mess.

Well, from what I have gathered around on the web it is a great time to be playing SM in general, and SW also seems like a blast.
I generally play nids or GSC. Tyranid warriors are the closest I have come anything in a power armour, and 3 wounds and 24" old school hevay bolter does not come close.
Would I need to buy both the SM codex, and the SW codex, or does the SW codex hold up?
I have gotten some random primaris models up through the years buying other things. I just do not know much about them. But the fun part about SW is being in that rapid fire/charge range and anoy the enemy. Primaris models do not seem to lend themselves to that, outside maiby the bikes.
Intercessor Sergeants (normal and Assault versions) get access to chainsword/powersword/powerfist/thunder hammer. Basically everyone in Primaris squads have the same weapons (outside of couple sergeant only upgrades), so no "special weapon guys" in Intercessors for example like you have with Grey Hunters / Blood Claws. And yes, Primaris have their own transports (which is dumb and gamey if you ask me).
I'm playing a more Primaris oriented SW lists and have had reasonable success. Probably going to use some Long Fangs / Thunderwolves / Terminators now that they got a bit more durable, but trying to keep it Primaris focused since I've kinda started to dislike the oldmarines' aesthetic. Primaris Marines' proportions and dimensions look much much better than oldmarines IMO. Sure there are the goofy outliers like Inceptors but I'm talking about stuff with "Intercessor type" armor.
Oh yeah, and you NEED the SM codex to play Space Wolves. SW get their own supplement in November that adds on top of SM codex. DO NOT BUY THE SPACE WOLVES CODEX, it's outdated.

Ok, first of all. Space Wolves are in a transition right now, we've been folded into the main space marine codex, don't panic this is, hopefully good news, as it means no spending a a year or more without a codex while other marines get theirs. a supplement with our specific stuff is coming and until then we have an index https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/GamaHDmpGRQShG3u.pdf
with that out of the way, primaris specific stuff for space wolves. well first of all, Ragnar blackmane is now a primaris marine, his mini is essentially unavaliable (having come in a bixerd set that came out this spring) but chances are it'll be avaliable when our suppplement hits.
space wolves have intergrated Primaris pretty well. and make full use of them. You may have heard some misinformation about primaris marines. "they're ALL from Mars/Terra. they where grown in tanks etc" this is absolute bull gak but it doesn't seem to go away. Primaris marines come in three distinct groups. The Awoken who are basicly "Generation one" marines, created by Cawl in his lab etc. the Indoctrinated, Primaris Marines created by a chapter just like any other marine. And the ascended, first born whom, like ragnar blackmane, became primaris marines.
for space wolf primaris stuff I'd reccomend, when they become avaliable, Ragnar and some blade guard, nice looking minis, and damned effective in melee

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
Wait what, I would need the SW codex on top of the SM codex when that comes out? Jikes.
I am not conserned about fluf version of SW primaris (although how they did not go haiwire when cowl grew the first once we will never know.)
The fact that they can take sergant weapons is a big upgrade. I always pictured them getting stuck in melee vs a dreandought, ork vehicler or monster and not being able to fight because no Sx2 weapon.
I saw the SW index, and that was what made me all warm and fussy. Grey Hunters look dope, as does thunder wolves characters and units. Long fangs got the shaft though, a pitty. And I really look forward to SW terminators with power shields. 33 points for power sword on a essentually 3 wound 1+ 4++ seems insane. (Yes, natural 1 always fails.) And with our unique structure you can toss in on ranged terminator and one real beatstick.
But I wanted to irentate myself. How do the regular squad compare to the greyhunter squad, and the plasma suport compare to long fang plasmacannons?

ideally, however you can just keep playing with the marine codex, unless you want to use marine specific stuff. the good thing bout supplements is it gives GW room to include chapter specific lore, rules character sheets etc. it's honestly a bit of a source of envy. that said... it's NOT, strictly speaking, essential. (although if you wanted to run grey hunters or anything exclusive to space wolves it basicly is)
the good news is as a space wolf player you now have access to storm ravens, centurions, thunderfire canons, ironclad dreadnoughts, and all the other things vanilla marines got that you where jealously eying

Wow, that is good. I did not know that. I played a lot of dreadnoughts in 5th edition. Was always helous of the ironclad.
